After Blaine's death, Atticus had been trying to keep close to Kurt, to make sure he was okay, or at least that he wasn't going to give up like Blaine had before. He felt like he owed it to the guy. There didn't seem to be any actual water in this arena, but there was a river at least, so Atticus figured that was the best place for them to stay near, mostly in the trees, but close enough they could get to the river if they needed to.

"Hey, how are you at tree-climbing?" he asked Kurt, keeping his voice down just in case any of the other Tributes were near by.

Although the mood in the Capitol is...taut, once the Tributes are in the transportation craft, things seem to lighten. The peacekeepers almost seem jovial - as jovial as peacekeepers ever seem. About half the Tributes are checked over and given an injection into their tracking device.

In the underground room, the stylists have all their prep teams running busy, dressing up the tributes in bright costumes, chatting with each other, clearly excited to have so much freedom over what their Tributes are wearing in. Each one is dressed in a personalized costume, elaborate, and entirely soft.

Finally the Tributes are placed on their pedestals and sent on up, all gussied up.

The light is blinding for a moment, before the candy-colored world around them comes into focus. And it's not just candy-colored - it is actually candy. Some Tributes might be reminded of the game Candy Land, if it was something in their home world. Music plays, scarily cute animals roam, and every thing just looks so gosh-darn happy.

The Cornucopia sits, candy-striped itself, and over-flowing with a generous bounty of food, weapons, and supplies. Even these all reflect the nature of the arena, brightly-colored, and cheerful-looking, just begging to be gathered up.

11- 10 - 9 - 8

They've all been warned not to step off their pedestal early. But as the final number ticks off, those Tributes that had their tracking devices adjusted in the transport suddenly feel a sting starting in their arms. A slightly diluted version of what Ariadne was given the day before is dumped in their veins.

The dilution doesn't help them, of course; it just causes the poison to take effect more slowly.

Go.

The burning is starting for half of them, spreading through their body, lighting their nerves on fire. Within 10 minutes it's effecting their motor skills, causing them to stagger, twitch, to move against their will.

Those who are small fall faster, barely lasting 15 minutes in the bloodbath. The stronger and bigger among them might make it 30 minutes at most.

By the time the bloodbath is over, the Cornucopia is surrounded by corpses. Half of the Tributes have fallen without even a single competitor having to touch them.

The longer she drew this battle out, the more likely it was that Stannis had already had his justice, that her uncle had smashed the Ironborn more than the wolves or lions could ever hope to. She needed to end this and get back home, and for that, she needed a better weapon.

Not that she was dissatisfied with the whip, and the fish hook had multiple people's blood dried on it; they did her well. But she was no Dornishman, nor any of the fighters from the East; she could prod a horse forward, but trying to use the whip as it was meant to be use would more likely than not just lash her instead. When no more gifts from the sky were forthcoming, she decided to return to where she had found it; perhaps there she would find something more suited to her talents.

Still, she keeps an eye out for anyone she passes; after all, there was no better weapon than one taken from a fallen foe.

WHAT | Thinking Adel is some horrible monster, Asha attacks and kills her. ;_;

Adel has been lonely since Pruna departed for the feast. She supposes she could have gone along, but at what risk? For items that she'd likely have no use for? Instead, she's remained by the unnerving half-andalites set in a decaying circle. Here she at least has some grass to feed upon. And so far, safety.

She has a stalk eye turned to gaze behind her as she grinds a front hoove in what little patches of grass she can find that aren't just as dead and decaying as the rest of the amusement park.

Who: Asha and you!
What: Exploring the waters like any good Ironborn would.
Where: Around the Rivers of America/Tom Sawyer's Island area!
When: Sometime in the first week! Feel free to find her on the ships or the island or even in the general area, whatever's easiest.
Warnings/Notes: She doesn't know people come back once they die, and I'd like it to stay that way if possible! As a result, she'll also probably be more hostile.

She had to find a weapon, but more importantly, she had to find water. Not just for drinking-- she had gone longer with less, and when she finally manhandled her containers open to find food inside, it became less of a problem-- but because she was Ironborn, and she needed water under her. Besides, even if she can't find a weapon, at least she'll be able to die by the sea.

It was no sea she found, but the little pisspot of a river was better than the swamp she had passed by. The bogmen were not kind to her nuncle, and she saw no reason for them to be any kinder here. There were boats and an island and at least some sort of underwater hall, presumably, and that was enough for her. Her cans were lighter after she had feasted on one, enough that she felt confident that the little sling made out of her cape would hold, and she had torn away enough of the foreign dress to maneuver, so she hauled herself onto the wreck of the ship. It smelt rotting and pathetic, but at least they were boat smells.

"Perhaps I'll name you Ugly Bastard, to match my brother and his," she told the ship, once she got her footing on the perched deck, and set off to see what she could find.

The last few hours before the Arena have a strangely stifled quality, as if half the people they interact with are trying very hard not to laugh. Maybe it's the costumes, the fancy gowns and velvet tunics, the short capes. Or maybe it's their destination.

The round courtyard to which the tubes bring them could not be more different from the last arena. Though outside the circle of pedestals, disrepair and neglect has taken over the roads and buildings, the garden inside the circle could not be more perfectly sculpted. Every hedge is a smooth, rounded shape. Flowers bloom brightly in concentric circles of insane color. The Cornucopia sits gleaming and golden, and just in front of its mouth, a bronze statue of a man and a mouse stands amid the heap of supplies.


Aside from it, there is a hush. No flies in the flowers, no wind in the trees. It is a cool day, with the comfortable chill of early spring and noon's short shadows.



Outside the circle, behind the tributes on the northern side, a castle looms. Through its wide gate, devastation everywhere, but it, itself, is shining clean, glowing pink and blue. Opaque windows look down from the heights of it, as uncaring as every hidden camera the veterans know is there.



Music starts as the countdown nears the bottom, a whimsical, dramatic tune.




And with the final note, the gong rang out, and a firework shot into the sky from the castle's peak, bright enough to burst redly across the sky above them all. Let the Games begin.
