5th-Jul-2013 10:15 pm - The Darkest Night Will End... right?
gardienne: (scared)
Who: Eponine and OPEN to ARENA 2 people
What: Eponine's gone a-wandering in the desert
Where: Somewhere in arena 2
When: Some time during the night time
Warnings: Unless you guys want to bring any?

It's night time in the arena and now Eponine is glad for her long sleeves and her velvet dress.  It's been strangely okay so far, this arena. Not too many deaths. Not too little food - or perhaps she just hadn't got used to the sumptuous luxury of the Capitol. Either way, between her bottle of water and the horrible cacti, she's okay. Just a little bored.

Whilst her friends sleep, Eponine wanders. She's on the look out really, for food, for weapons - anything that will keep her alive for a little longer. And, of course, she is on the look out for danger.

But tonight, Eponine hasn't found danger, or weapons, or even food. What she has found is one of the screens, projecting images from the first arena. She stands for a minute, watching the other tributes in wonder. And then a face so familiar, so dear to her, flashes onscreen. Howard.

At once, Eponine is closer to the screen, pawing at Howard's face magnified as it is. But then she steps back because Howard has suddenly somehow burst into flames before her very eyes. Startled, she lets out a yelp and scrambles back, settling cross legged in the sand as she watches him trying to put out the fire, knowing she can do nothing to help him.

"HOWARD, YOU ARE A SILLY!"

Her shout of despair echoes in the still night, and Eponine claps a hand over her mouth in horror. She hopes nobody heard that.

Although the mood in the Capitol is...taut, once the Tributes are in the transportation craft, things seem to lighten. The peacekeepers almost seem jovial - as jovial as peacekeepers ever seem. About half the Tributes are checked over and given an injection into their tracking device.

In the underground room, the stylists have all their prep teams running busy, dressing up the tributes in bright costumes, chatting with each other, clearly excited to have so much freedom over what their Tributes are wearing in. Each one is dressed in a personalized costume, elaborate, and entirely soft.

Finally the Tributes are placed on their pedestals and sent on up, all gussied up.

25 - 24 - 23

The light is blinding for a moment, before the candy-colored world around them comes into focus. And it's not just candy-colored - it is actually candy. Some Tributes might be reminded of the game Candy Land, if it was something in their home world. Music plays, scarily cute animals roam, and every thing just looks so gosh-darn happy.

20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16

The Cornucopia sits, candy-striped itself, and over-flowing with a generous bounty of food, weapons, and supplies. Even these all reflect the nature of the arena, brightly-colored, and cheerful-looking, just begging to be gathered up.

11- 10 - 9 - 8

They've all been warned not to step off their pedestal early. But as the final number ticks off, those Tributes that had their tracking devices adjusted in the transport suddenly feel a sting starting in their arms. A slightly diluted version of what Ariadne was given the day before is dumped in their veins.

The dilution doesn't help them, of course; it just causes the poison to take effect more slowly.

5 - 4

Go.

The burning is starting for half of them, spreading through their body, lighting their nerves on fire. Within 10 minutes it's effecting their motor skills, causing them to stagger, twitch, to move against their will.

Those who are small fall faster, barely lasting 15 minutes in the bloodbath. The stronger and bigger among them might make it 30 minutes at most.

By the time the bloodbath is over, the Cornucopia is surrounded by corpses. Half of the Tributes have fallen without even a single competitor having to touch them.

[OOC: Don't forget the OOC Arena post, especially those of you running for the Cornucopia. Every Tribute must post to this post. There will be a Cornucopia thread, and anyone else feel free to post as you will. Please add a tag with your character's name.

Those who were poisoned are anyone in group 2. You will have a second post up shortly.]

Who| Draco Malfoy and anyone nearby
What| Draco fell into a crevasse, and he can't get up. Except that he totally can.
Where| a crevasse!
When| throughout the second week
Warnings| language and death

Draco wasn't finding this Arena nearly as bad as the last few. Perhaps because he'd actually made an attempt at things. An attempt at the Cornucopia - he'd received more supplies than he knew what to do with; an attempt at an alliance - he'd sadly lost Wyatt one evening after he'd found Momoko, but it was the point of the thing; an attempt at killing - Howard had sustained injuries that he hadn't expected himself to manage. It was an Arena of firsts, and though something deep inside him shivered at the thought of killing another Tribute in cold blood, despite having already done it the last time around, he was starting to get the hang of this.

Still, there was something so much more civilised about the Capitol, he thought. And without the illness of the last Arena to drive him around the place in search of people, Draco had found himself currently holing out in a crevasse. He heard people going by every now and then, but he had all the supplies he needed, suddenly grateful that he hadn't wasted his canned goods in the first few days like he'd thought he might.

It was only when he reached out for a can that evening and had it fly to his hand without prompt (though perhaps an internalised Accio can) that he realised maybe this Arena wasn't so bad at all.

Who| Lottie and OPEN
What|  Hunting for food.
Where|  Near birds.
When|  Mid-days
Warnings| Death

She knew being out in broad daylight wasn't bright. But at night the birds were settled in their nest, and she was starving.

Not that she was really looking forward to egg sucking either, but it was better than nothing. Neither of her companions were planning to eat the way she ate, and so she hadn't wanted to push them into her food scrounging.

Which is why she was clinging, alone, to the slipper cliff face, praying she didn't fall and break something, as she gathered eggs from the nests here, batting away the birds that were not too happy to have her stealing their eggs.

"Oh bother off." She grumped as she felt another bird pecking at her parka. Thank god it was so thick.

The work was hard, taking a lot of her strength. And more than once she slipped free, finding herself in free fall, which was short, and ended painfully most every time.

Who| Glinda and open
What| Searching for a camp
Where| All over the place. Feel free to run into her anywhere in the arena
When| First week
Warnings| None so far
Notes | If Glinda falls into one of the crevices she gets her magic back, let me know if you want to do something with that!

She had been fortunate.

A bow and arrow on her back, food squirrelled away in her jacket along with water and a sleeping bag that admittedly let in the water a little but was far better than just sleeping rough.

But Glinda was getting cold. Not the kind of cold that merely made a witch shiver but one that froze her to her bones. A sponsor had sent her fire making equipment but she needed shelter so she could kindle it. So she searched, keeping her bow notched with an arrow and her sleeping bag wrapped around her as she searched for a cave that could house her.
