Oh my love, I know you are the Candy Man

Although the mood in the Capitol is...taut, once the Tributes are in the transportation craft, things seem to lighten. The peacekeepers almost seem jovial - as jovial as peacekeepers ever seem. About half the Tributes are checked over and given an injection into their tracking device.

In the underground room, the stylists have all their prep teams running busy, dressing up the tributes in bright costumes, chatting with each other, clearly excited to have so much freedom over what their Tributes are wearing in. Each one is dressed in a personalized costume, elaborate, and entirely soft.

Finally the Tributes are placed on their pedestals and sent on up, all gussied up.

25 - 24 - 23

The light is blinding for a moment, before the candy-colored world around them comes into focus. And it's not just candy-colored - it is actually candy. Some Tributes might be reminded of the game Candy Land, if it was something in their home world. Music plays, scarily cute animals roam, and every thing just looks so gosh-darn happy.

20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16

The Cornucopia sits, candy-striped itself, and over-flowing with a generous bounty of food, weapons, and supplies. Even these all reflect the nature of the arena, brightly-colored, and cheerful-looking, just begging to be gathered up.

11- 10 - 9 - 8

They've all been warned not to step off their pedestal early. But as the final number ticks off, those Tributes that had their tracking devices adjusted in the transport suddenly feel a sting starting in their arms. A slightly diluted version of what Ariadne was given the day before is dumped in their veins.

The dilution doesn't help them, of course; it just causes the poison to take effect more slowly.

Go.

The burning is starting for half of them, spreading through their body, lighting their nerves on fire. Within 10 minutes it's effecting their motor skills, causing them to stagger, twitch, to move against their will.

Those who are small fall faster, barely lasting 15 minutes in the bloodbath. The stronger and bigger among them might make it 30 minutes at most.

By the time the bloodbath is over, the Cornucopia is surrounded by corpses. Half of the Tributes have fallen without even a single competitor having to touch them.

[OOC: Don't forget the OOC Arena post, especially those of you running for the Cornucopia. Every Tribute must post to this post. There will be a Cornucopia thread, and anyone else feel free to post as you will. Please add a tag with your character's name.

Those who were poisoned are anyone in group 2. You will have a second post up shortly.]

Howard takes a few steps back, until he's near a gumdrop, and sits down. Much better. Staying standing without tipping over was taking way too much concentration.

"I got supplies, because I did go running for the pile of shit. I've also got a plan for how to get dinner, which I'm betting you're pretty interested in, right? What I don't got is vision in my right eye and a sense of balance worth getting anywhere."

His mouth curves up into a slight smirk. "You want to help me make a bomb?"

The idea of food did tempt her. Really more than it should. She had gorged herself the night before afterall, plus this place seemed to be made of food. Seemed to be...

But wait, Howard couldn't see out of his right eye? At all? That hit must have messed him up even worse than she thought. That didn't seem like good news at all.

Howards suggestion shocks her. She hides it, but still it shocks her. A bomb? Again, the obvious answer stops her from asking for what. But a bomb? How many people would that kill? It seemed so definitive. So deliberate. This wasn't scrapping with sharp metal in order to get out alive. This was plotting.

It's the smirk that gets her. Was it a grim smirk or was he actually excited?

Was that what this place did to you? Yes, the FAYZ had always had a way of desensitizing you to death. But actually causing a death typically still held its weight. Howard wasn't some little kid hiding behind the bigger ones. He was a murderer.

Diana didn't want to be a murderer. First hand or otherwise. But she didn't want to seem weak either. Not if this is what you had to step up into to survive here.

Since when did Diana Ladris cave to peer pressure? Peer pressure from one little FAYZ boy?

Since now apparently.

"That depends, what do I need to do?"

"I need an extra set of hands and a lookout. I found out you can kill those annoying singing Beanie Babies, and I want to try lighting some of them up before I, uh..." He looks for the works, mulls his tongue around in his mouth, and can't come up with anything. "Before I end up making someone mad while trying to blow things up with a dud."

So yes. He is planning to use it on other people, although actually saying that out loud wipes the smirk right off his face.

"Look, do you want out of here or not? I know full well if it's just the two of us at the end, you'll kill me, so I'm doing you a favor offering you that chance."

It's not like she can argue with him, there's not much to argue about, what he's saying makes sense.

"Alright, alright. You've convinced me, snake-tongued devil that you are."

She sighs and glances around them before leaning against the tree and speaking.

"So, how do you want to start?"

"If I give you stuff to carry, are you going to hit me over the head and run off?" He gestures for her to come with him. "Look, you're new. You didn't get much time to watch all the footage. I know who you need to watch out for and who you can use."

He realizes he's selling himself to her a little hard, a little desperately. Diana's probably going to think she already knows who to use.

"There's safety in numbers right up until the end. Then, you know." They're both aware of what too many people and not enough resources is like.

She moves over, but makes sure to keep out of his arms length. She doesn't want his damaged brain suddenly wigging out and have a zombie Howard tearing at her face.

"Not unless I get a good reason to."

She's a little curious as to why he's selling himself so hard to her of all people. Is it just because she's the first one he's come across since he got injured who won't kill him on first sight?

There's very little doubt in her mind that he's going to drop her as soon as possible. But she doesn't have much choice at the moment.

"Fine."
