Oh my love, I know you are the Candy Man
Although the mood in the Capitol is...taut, once the Tributes are in the transportation craft, things seem to lighten. The peacekeepers almost seem jovial - as jovial as peacekeepers ever seem. About half the Tributes are checked over and given an injection into their tracking device.
In the underground room, the stylists have all their prep teams running busy, dressing up the tributes in bright costumes, chatting with each other, clearly excited to have so much freedom over what their Tributes are wearing in. Each one is dressed in a personalized costume, elaborate, and entirely soft.
Finally the Tributes are placed on their pedestals and sent on up, all gussied up.
25 - 24 - 23
The light is blinding for a moment, before the candy-colored world around them comes into focus. And it's not just candy-colored - it is actually candy. Some Tributes might be reminded of the game Candy Land, if it was something in their home world. Music plays, scarily cute animals roam, and every thing just looks so gosh-darn happy.
20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16
The Cornucopia sits, candy-striped itself, and over-flowing with a generous bounty of food, weapons, and supplies. Even these all reflect the nature of the arena, brightly-colored, and cheerful-looking, just begging to be gathered up.
11- 10 - 9 - 8
They've all been warned not to step off their pedestal early. But as the final number ticks off, those Tributes that had their tracking devices adjusted in the transport suddenly feel a sting starting in their arms. A slightly diluted version of what Ariadne was given the day before is dumped in their veins.
The dilution doesn't help them, of course; it just causes the poison to take effect more slowly.

Go.
The burning is starting for half of them, spreading through their body, lighting their nerves on fire. Within 10 minutes it's effecting their motor skills, causing them to stagger, twitch, to move against their will.
Those who are small fall faster, barely lasting 15 minutes in the bloodbath. The stronger and bigger among them might make it 30 minutes at most.
By the time the bloodbath is over, the Cornucopia is surrounded by corpses. Half of the Tributes have fallen without even a single competitor having to touch them.
[OOC: Don't forget the OOC Arena post, especially those of you running for the Cornucopia. Every Tribute must post to this post. There will be a Cornucopia thread, and anyone else feel free to post as you will. Please add a tag with your character's name.
Those who were poisoned are anyone in group 2. You will have a second post up shortly.]

"You asked for it now, Specs." Her voice is slightly ragged, both from running and trying to recover from having her lungs so quickly vacated.
There's a hungry expression on her face, not a malicious one. She doesn't get off on killing or violence. It's just an unfortunate means to get to her end, and that's attention. That's thousands of sets of eyes raised to her in adoration and awe. If she has to crack a few skulls to get it, so be it. The price of fame has always been high.
She lunges forward again, aiming a blow to his stomach.

He was screwed. And she was looking for a fight. One of those Tributes. She wanted him gone.
Knocking her down hadn't done a thing to throw her off, and she was fast The breath was driven out of him in a ragged whoosh. Daniel staggered to the side.

Get it, because she's Catwoman? Hopefully the one-liners will play well with the Sponsors, or afterwards, if someone wants to pick her up to sell luxury pet condos. She throws another kick, this one for his head.
And that's when her damn heel breaks. The kick is high enough that the tweak to her balance throws her off entirely, and the next thing she knows she's to the side, on her knees in Candyland. Her ankle screams at her. Her hans are covered in Pixie Stix dust.
(with permission)
Except dumb luck at this point and shoddy craftsmanship from her Escorts. The Tribute suddenly went down like a rock in the pixie dust, crumbled from the fall.
Daniel didn't think twice. This was the only chance he'd get. Still struggling for breath, Daniel launched all six feet of himself at her and threw a punch at the side of her head.
Re: (with permission)
A bubble of spittle at the corner of her mouth expands and shrinks as she breathes. Her palms face upwards like those of a supplicant; her knees lay at an awkward, jaunty ankle, the the limbs on a marionette that's been tossed aside.
She makes a slight groaning sound and her fingertips twitch, but even though her eyelashes flutter slightly, there's no awareness that's returned to her yet.
Re: (with permission)
So far, only one of those was a sure bet. Daniel scooped up the bag, and then, after a second, picked her up and slung her over his shoulder. Leaving her out here like this would only mean she'd present an easy target to someone. Daniel couldn't let that happen; he'd have has good as killed her himself at that point. Even if she'd meant to kill him.
Daniel bent, and scooped her into his arms. Turning, he quickly carried her away from the carnage unfolding around the Cornucopia, keeping an eye on both the others and the woman. He had to find somewhere out of the way, make sure she wasn't completely concussed, and then leave before she got any ideas.
Re: (with permission)
She's in someone's arms. It's a strange feeling. Not one she's used to. And then, when she creaks her neck up - not easy, since her head feels as heavy as a cannonball - and looks at Daniel's face, the rest of the picture falls into place.
"What the fu-" Venus thrashes, struggling like a fish in a net, not graceful but full of desperate, disoriented energy. "Put me down!"
She has to get back to Cornucopia, at the very least. Possibly after she kills this guy. What in God's name is Specs doing carrying her around anyway?
Re: (with permission)
Holding onto her was like suddenly holding onto an eel. It was only luck he didn't get his glasses slapped right off his nose. Daniel held on, tightening his hold and not letting her get her feet on the ground.
"I'm trying to save your life, even though I really shouldn't bother!" Daniel snapped. "You would have been dead if I'd left you laid out!"
Re: (with permission)
She's livid, beyond merely angry, and if she still had her powers she'd have gone full supernova and Daniel would be nothing but a man-sized space in a scorch of earth. Or candy, in this case.
It's only been a handful of minutes and she's already lost her chance of making a strong first impression, and instead looks like a hot mess who can't take out a guy with less fighting skills than a pack of Top Ramen, in her opinion. She could probably work the damsel in distress angle if she absolutely had to, but she doubts that poor lost girls get many votes in this game.
She tries her best to slam her heel into his groin. Playing clean at this point is for chumps; she needs to do damage control. She'll either have to get back to the Cornucopia and kick serious ass or make sure Daniel dies in an exciting, innovative way.
Re: (with permission)
What the-?! Her elbow suddenly clocked him in the face, knocking his glasses askew. Daniel almost let go. In fact, letting her go was probably better, because she was a lot more trouble than she was worth; except he had to at least try and stop her from diving back into that blood bath.
Her heel didn't hit his crotch, but - holy crap still slammed close enough that the throb of pain at the juncture and the sudden self preservation that came with the near-miss forced him to half-drop her, half-throw her away from him.
Even that Tribute who'd killed him hadn't gone that low!
Daniel backed off, straightening his glasses. This time she wasn't going to take him by surprise. The first time was plenty and okay, the second time with the groin attack was something he should have seen coming. He was lucky he had a third chance. "What's to go back to? Just to get killed or put on a good show for these guys? What's the point? Dance when they say so, just because they say so?"
Re: (with permission)
She finds her feet soon enough, though, jumping up and staggering a bit as she readjusts her balance. He must have hit her relatively hard; she's still seeing stars blotching out her vision like neon and watercolors.
"What, or die nameless and faceless like everyone else? No, thank you!" She pauses for a moment, torn between launching herself back at him and heading back for the Cornucopia. He did save her life, but he possibly cost it in the long run, and furthermore, he injured her pride.
Even so, she probably owes him a sentence and a half worth of explanation. She wields an accusatory finger at him like a sword. "I'm an entertainer. I'm not doing this because they say I should do it, I'm doing it because they want me to do it."
Re: (with permission)
Daniel took a step back, right as she staggered to her feet. Apparently he'd hit her pretty hard, because for a second there, she wove like a drunk. Thankfully she didn't try lunging at him just yet, but still... he wasn't about to let his guard down.
For a moment all Daniel could do was stare at her in shock, jaw dropping."...That's it? Seriously? This is real, it's not some tv show where everyone comes out okay? If I'd left you out there, some Tribute would have disemboweled you for the sponsors."
Re: (with permission)
"Because I don't have a headache today, you live. But trust me, if I see you again, it's over for you." She tosses the rock and catches it again, taking a step back. "I got nine lives and you don't."
She just does not understand the priorities for these people. It's almost like they're not happy to be here.
She takes off running back towards the Cornucopia.
