Oh my love, I know you are the Candy Man

Although the mood in the Capitol is...taut, once the Tributes are in the transportation craft, things seem to lighten. The peacekeepers almost seem jovial - as jovial as peacekeepers ever seem. About half the Tributes are checked over and given an injection into their tracking device.

In the underground room, the stylists have all their prep teams running busy, dressing up the tributes in bright costumes, chatting with each other, clearly excited to have so much freedom over what their Tributes are wearing in. Each one is dressed in a personalized costume, elaborate, and entirely soft.

Finally the Tributes are placed on their pedestals and sent on up, all gussied up.

25 - 24 - 23

The light is blinding for a moment, before the candy-colored world around them comes into focus. And it's not just candy-colored - it is actually candy. Some Tributes might be reminded of the game Candy Land, if it was something in their home world. Music plays, scarily cute animals roam, and every thing just looks so gosh-darn happy.

20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16

The Cornucopia sits, candy-striped itself, and over-flowing with a generous bounty of food, weapons, and supplies. Even these all reflect the nature of the arena, brightly-colored, and cheerful-looking, just begging to be gathered up.

11- 10 - 9 - 8

They've all been warned not to step off their pedestal early. But as the final number ticks off, those Tributes that had their tracking devices adjusted in the transport suddenly feel a sting starting in their arms. A slightly diluted version of what Ariadne was given the day before is dumped in their veins.

The dilution doesn't help them, of course; it just causes the poison to take effect more slowly.

Go.

The burning is starting for half of them, spreading through their body, lighting their nerves on fire. Within 10 minutes it's effecting their motor skills, causing them to stagger, twitch, to move against their will.

Those who are small fall faster, barely lasting 15 minutes in the bloodbath. The stronger and bigger among them might make it 30 minutes at most.

By the time the bloodbath is over, the Cornucopia is surrounded by corpses. Half of the Tributes have fallen without even a single competitor having to touch them.

[OOC: Don't forget the OOC Arena post, especially those of you running for the Cornucopia. Every Tribute must post to this post. There will be a Cornucopia thread, and anyone else feel free to post as you will. Please add a tag with your character's name.

Those who were poisoned are anyone in group 2. You will have a second post up shortly.]

"Hey, kid," Cindy said, coming to a stop beside him. "Don't push yourself, it's okay." She didn't want him using up all his strengths just to stand upright. The way this seemed to be going, she didn't think there was anything she could do. There was plenty of candy and sweets around, but none of those seemed like a good idea to suck up poison.

Shit. She said she'd help him, and here she couldn't do anything. "How do you feel?" Obvious answer was 'like shit' but she still had to ask.

"Okay..." He's a terrible liar, the colour is drained from his face as he struggles to speak. He gave up on trying to stand and just collapsed back to the floor.

"Just stay down," Cindy frowned, running her fingers through her hair. "You're a terrible liar, kid. It's okay to not be okay." There's really nothing she can do, is there? She can't even offer to put him out of his misery; he'll probably be gone before she even offered.

"You're going to be fine. You're smart, and brave, and you're going to be okay." She placed a hand on his head. "Try to relax."

His eyes scrunched closed in pain as he tried to draw in breath. He didn't feel like he was going to be okay and relaxing was the furthest thing away from possible. He sobbed out a breath from where he lay as another spasm of pain ran through him.

"You... should run..."

"Either we leave together, or I stay with you for as long as you need me," Cindy said firmly, brushing back some of his hair off his face. "Just breathe. It hurts, but it won't hurt forever. You're going to be okay."

She really thought she was all set for the arena. She had friends, she had allies... and now they all seemed to be dying in her arms. "Hey, remember that plant you showed me? The one that part of it lives in the mud, but the reeds are up top? Remember that plant, what was it's name?"

He was going to die, but he just nodded and concentrated on breathing, trying to remember how as more spasms of pain went through him. "Typha latifolia?" He asked remembering the plants he had gone through, "Also... known as Typha, cattail or bulrushes."
undercoverprincess: (look to the immediate future)

"Yeah, that's right. Cattail, I remember that." She wasn't going to cry. No tears were going to come out, even though her heart clenched for him. He was a good kid, and he truly did not deserve this.

"Can I do anything for you?" She cupped his head gently. "Anything at all?" Even if it was just staying with him till the end. She'd do it.

His eyes flickered again and he shook his head, "It's okay... thank you..." He really was grateful for her staying with him, and he hoped that she did really well.

More pain flooded through him and he closed his eyes, trying not to cling to Cindy, his eyes closed again and he whimpered as the poison did it's work. He didn't say anymore and it wasn't long before he finally went still.
undercoverprincess: (I got her now)

She'd held the hands of too many dying friends in the arena. This was the last one, she swore to herself, it was the last one. She brushed away the hair on his face a moment after he went still, leaning and pressing her ear to his chest.

No beating, and her fingers on his neck said the same story. Nothing. He was gone. She lifted her head, running a hand over her face with the fingers coming back wet. She couldn't remember crying, but she must have.

"I'll see you later, kid." Cindy smiled sadly, leaning down and pressing a kiss to his forehead before getting back up. Time to go.
