Oh my love, I know you are the Candy Man

Although the mood in the Capitol is...taut, once the Tributes are in the transportation craft, things seem to lighten. The peacekeepers almost seem jovial - as jovial as peacekeepers ever seem. About half the Tributes are checked over and given an injection into their tracking device.

In the underground room, the stylists have all their prep teams running busy, dressing up the tributes in bright costumes, chatting with each other, clearly excited to have so much freedom over what their Tributes are wearing in. Each one is dressed in a personalized costume, elaborate, and entirely soft.

Finally the Tributes are placed on their pedestals and sent on up, all gussied up.

25 - 24 - 23

The light is blinding for a moment, before the candy-colored world around them comes into focus. And it's not just candy-colored - it is actually candy. Some Tributes might be reminded of the game Candy Land, if it was something in their home world. Music plays, scarily cute animals roam, and every thing just looks so gosh-darn happy.

20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16

The Cornucopia sits, candy-striped itself, and over-flowing with a generous bounty of food, weapons, and supplies. Even these all reflect the nature of the arena, brightly-colored, and cheerful-looking, just begging to be gathered up.

11- 10 - 9 - 8

They've all been warned not to step off their pedestal early. But as the final number ticks off, those Tributes that had their tracking devices adjusted in the transport suddenly feel a sting starting in their arms. A slightly diluted version of what Ariadne was given the day before is dumped in their veins.

The dilution doesn't help them, of course; it just causes the poison to take effect more slowly.

Go.

The burning is starting for half of them, spreading through their body, lighting their nerves on fire. Within 10 minutes it's effecting their motor skills, causing them to stagger, twitch, to move against their will.

Those who are small fall faster, barely lasting 15 minutes in the bloodbath. The stronger and bigger among them might make it 30 minutes at most.

By the time the bloodbath is over, the Cornucopia is surrounded by corpses. Half of the Tributes have fallen without even a single competitor having to touch them.

[OOC: Don't forget the OOC Arena post, especially those of you running for the Cornucopia. Every Tribute must post to this post. There will be a Cornucopia thread, and anyone else feel free to post as you will. Please add a tag with your character's name.

Those who were poisoned are anyone in group 2. You will have a second post up shortly.]

Harley groaned face down in the dirt "But Mommy, I don't wanna go to school, my everything hurts." She whined weakly.

And despite her dellerious attempt at comedy it was honest. It felt like she was itching from the inside. Like she had the worst case of gas and her belly was swelling. Her tears wouldn't stop as her insides shredded themselves.

A puddle dark wetness began to spread from underneath the oversized pony head.

"No, no, you have to," Cindy said with a little more urgency. It wasn't even that long into the whole thing, how could she be dying already? Cindy had been around death enough to know the signs of it. Getting down a little more, she went to go turn Harley over, so her face wasn't any longer in the dirt.

"Come on. We're supposed to be taking the rest of these fuckers on, aren't we? You can't be done yet. Here, look, I grabbed too much! Too much, come on, get up, and you get the pink baseball bat, how does that sound?" Her nerves were finally starting to catch up to her.

I am not enjoying this at all. No. Nope. Not a bit. Not even a smudge. Cross my twisted evil heart

It was all so enticing, Harley's eyes were wide and her pupils dilated to take up most of them as blood dribbled down her chin from her darkening lips. They stood out particularly against her waxy pale complexion.

"K-Kitty? Is that you?" She rasped and sputtered sending flecks of blood through the air onto Cindy's chest.

With trembling desperation she grabbed at Cindy's top to try and pull them closer wheezing "Y-Ya gotta go...Brucie is out there! And Babs and Eddie and I think I saw Ivy..." She begged what she thought was her friend from back home. Tears ran down her cheeks and a fresh trail of blood started from her nose.

Shit. She looked like someone from her home. Suddenly the whole dressing up thing had a purpose: they just wanted to screw with their minds a little bit more. What was she supposed to do now? It felt wrong to pretend to be her friend.

"It's Cindy," She said, but not very loud. It was Cindy, not Kitty. She shouldn't be doing this, but she went down, knees hitting the... not dirt. Candy, she guessed. Something sticky and sweet.

"I'm gonna go. I am. But you have to go with me." Fuck, she could feel her eyes starting to burn. Stupid allergies. "We'll go find them together. Catch up to them." She put a hand onto Harley's head.

"It's going to be okay."

She was burning up. A fever worse then any Cindy had ever felt. The weak smile twisted into confusion as Harley grappled with the words.

"Can we go get some sodas?" She mewed and wheezed weakly as more and more of her weight was hanging limply in Cindy's arms. She wasn't supporting herself at all and her eyes were starting to get cloudy.

"Knock knock." she mumbled.

All she could do was hold her, and occasionally brush a lock of hair off of her face. Shit, this wasn't even that far into the arena, and here she was starting to get emotional. She couldn't be doing this. She couldn't. She should help her on her way, but what was she supposed to do? Whack her to death with the baseball bat? Suffocate her with cotton candy?

"Yeah, we can get some sodas. Soon as you feel better," Cindy swallowed and nodded. Her pretty, blonde haired friend was dying in her arms. The fuck kind of place was this?

"Who's there?"

"Icee." She wheezed and tried to sit up only to find that none of her muscles were obeying her anymore. Dark stains of red were spreading on either side of the Pink hood leading to the belief that her ears were bleeding.

"Icee who?" She moved to push the hood back, but maybe that wasn't something she needed to see. Pushing the hood back wasn't going to make it stop happening, after all. And what was she going to do, anyway? She couldn't stop someone from bleeding from the ears. That was out of her league.

But her hands were now stained red. She hadn't even done anything.

"Icee a bright light...funny I thought I'd be going to the other place." She laughed weakly and her body went still, stiffening in Cindy's arms, the blood drained from her face seemed to be leaking out her ears nose and mouth.

It wasn't even the first day and Cindy had already lost an ally.
undercoverprincess: (she just doesn't know)

[personal profile] undercoverprincess 2013-07-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Damnit. First day, Cindy could barely believe it. She leaned down, putting a finger to her neck to check for a pulse, as well as placing her head against her chest to hear a heartbeat. Nothing. She sighed, closing Harley's eyes and pressing her lips to her forehead before standing up.

Time to go.
