Arena 06 - Happy
The last few hours before the Arena have a strangely stifled quality, as if half the people they interact with are trying very hard not to laugh. Maybe it's the costumes, the fancy gowns and velvet tunics, the short capes. Or maybe it's their destination.
The round courtyard to which the tubes bring them could not be more different from the last arena. Though outside the circle of pedestals, disrepair and neglect has taken over the roads and buildings, the garden inside the circle could not be more perfectly sculpted. Every hedge is a smooth, rounded shape. Flowers bloom brightly in concentric circles of insane color. The Cornucopia sits gleaming and golden, and just in front of its mouth, a bronze statue of a man and a mouse stands amid the heap of supplies.
Aside from it, there is a hush. No flies in the flowers, no wind in the trees. It is a cool day, with the comfortable chill of early spring and noon's short shadows.
Outside the circle, behind the tributes on the northern side, a castle looms. Through its wide gate, devastation everywhere, but it, itself, is shining clean, glowing pink and blue. Opaque windows look down from the heights of it, as uncaring as every hidden camera the veterans know is there.
Music starts as the countdown nears the bottom, a whimsical, dramatic tune.
And with the final note, the gong rang out, and a firework shot into the sky from the castle's peak, bright enough to burst redly across the sky above them all. Let the Games begin.
((OOC NOTES: IF YOUR CHARACTER HAS POWERS THE CAPITOL HAS NERFED, make sure you are on this list.
And everyone really should review the arena post. Because there's a little more to play with than you might think.
And please remember to add your character's tag to each post they're in.))

But of course, drastic times called for such measures, and in the face of danger and desperation, who was she to cling to her ivory tower and refuse to help herself? She might not want to actively participate in the breaking down of the doors and windows, but in order to survive, she'd scavenge the way her ancestor wolves did during tough times.
"I could help you, though."

She seemed like a nice girl -- probably upper crust. So what where those dastards doing tossing her in the ring? After a moment, he decided to ask.
"By the way, what are you in here for? You don't look like a criminal element."

His second question caught her off guard as she was making her first attempt to gently tug off one of the boards. Lady was no criminal, though she was certain that she was being punished for being bad. She had disobeyed Aunt Sarah, she'd chased the cats around. And she'd run off and spent the night with the Tramp and chased chickens with him. If that was her crime, then Lady was certainly guilty.
"I ran away from home," she said, pink tinting her cheeks, nearly the same shade as the skirt she was wearing. "I stayed out all night and I didn't go home."

She seemed like a nice girl, and again, Gaius was struck by how out of place some of the people here were. He pried at the board Lady was working at; the wood gave a sudden groan, lurching forward momentarily as a nail or two loosened. "Bet they'll be happy to see you again."
sorry this is so late :c
"I do hope so. I miss them terribly." Especially Tramp, and the baby.
She stole a quick peek into the building, eyes straining in the darkness.
"What do you suppose is inside?"
no problem
"I'm hoping that there'll be some leftover weapons or armor inside. Maybe even some canned goods someone left behind -- those can last a pretty long time, you know." He pulled his hand sharply away from the opening, shaking it at the wrist.
"Think I got a splinter or something. Today's really not my day."

"So. You come from a pretty high-class background, huh?"
