Oh my love, I know you are the Candy Man
Although the mood in the Capitol is...taut, once the Tributes are in the transportation craft, things seem to lighten. The peacekeepers almost seem jovial - as jovial as peacekeepers ever seem. About half the Tributes are checked over and given an injection into their tracking device.
In the underground room, the stylists have all their prep teams running busy, dressing up the tributes in bright costumes, chatting with each other, clearly excited to have so much freedom over what their Tributes are wearing in. Each one is dressed in a personalized costume, elaborate, and entirely soft.
Finally the Tributes are placed on their pedestals and sent on up, all gussied up.
25 - 24 - 23
The light is blinding for a moment, before the candy-colored world around them comes into focus. And it's not just candy-colored - it is actually candy. Some Tributes might be reminded of the game Candy Land, if it was something in their home world. Music plays, scarily cute animals roam, and every thing just looks so gosh-darn happy.
20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16
The Cornucopia sits, candy-striped itself, and over-flowing with a generous bounty of food, weapons, and supplies. Even these all reflect the nature of the arena, brightly-colored, and cheerful-looking, just begging to be gathered up.
11- 10 - 9 - 8
They've all been warned not to step off their pedestal early. But as the final number ticks off, those Tributes that had their tracking devices adjusted in the transport suddenly feel a sting starting in their arms. A slightly diluted version of what Ariadne was given the day before is dumped in their veins.
The dilution doesn't help them, of course; it just causes the poison to take effect more slowly.

Go.
The burning is starting for half of them, spreading through their body, lighting their nerves on fire. Within 10 minutes it's effecting their motor skills, causing them to stagger, twitch, to move against their will.
Those who are small fall faster, barely lasting 15 minutes in the bloodbath. The stronger and bigger among them might make it 30 minutes at most.
By the time the bloodbath is over, the Cornucopia is surrounded by corpses. Half of the Tributes have fallen without even a single competitor having to touch them.
[OOC: Don't forget the OOC Arena post, especially those of you running for the Cornucopia. Every Tribute must post to this post. There will be a Cornucopia thread, and anyone else feel free to post as you will. Please add a tag with your character's name.
Those who were poisoned are anyone in group 2. You will have a second post up shortly.]

Ignore the screaming icon.
But immediately, she was blinking in vain. Marius. She had to find him - help him.
"Marius? Monsieur Marius!" Her hoarse voice shook with the effort as she looked around, dizzy to her core. But then - there he was. Just a few steps awawy.
"Monsieur!" She willed herself onto her knees, to crawl forwsrd. She shook with the effort - but she did it. She made it to him, half collapsing on him. She pawed desperately, trying her best to turn Marius over onto his back, so that she could lay her head on his chest. At last - at last - dying together. And Eponine, despite the pain, was quite content.
"Nearly over now, Sir. I can see the stars."
ps i would apologize but i'm not really sorry
He felt, vaguely, the hands that turned him over, followed by a weight on his chest. His hands shook violently but he tried his hardest to move it so that he could rest it on her head, his quivering fingers tangling in her hair.
Eponine?
Another fit shook his entire body then, and he couldn't repress the wail that escaped him as he attempted to curl into himself once more, the action instead causing him to wrap his arms around her and pull her closer to him as he shifted again to lay on his side. He shivered as he clung to her, unconsciously, his mind too far away now for him to be mindful of his actions.
And then he saw it: A hazy vision through the tears he did not realize were streaming down his face. Bright and blazing and immaculate. The stars.
And a wild garden and the mist and the moonlight, and a girl in white with golden streaks in her dark hair and the universe in her eyes.
Despite the pain and the shortening of his breath and the numbing of his senses, the tiniest hint of a smile formed on his face as his eyes fixed on a certain spot in the distance, and he whispered in a voice filled with love,
"Cosette..."
Re: ps i would apologize but i'm not really sorry
Cosette's name.
She wasn't here, she wasn't lay in his arms, she shouldn't be - and he had said her name. Slowly, shaking from the effort, she pulled herself away from Marius. All he wanted was that girl. That Cosette. Even now, in the pain, when she tried to comfort him, tried to stay strong for him, he just couldn't see.
If his hand was wound in her hair, then she lost what tangled around his fingers as she rolled away, and onto her knees. But the pain from the poison was too much and she didn't even register the extra pain in her scalp.
She couldn't stay. Not if he was whispering about Cosette. She crawled. One hand in front of the other, dragging her legs until she collapsed a few feet away. And then, she screamed again as another spasm overtook her and her body shook as her vital organs began to shut down.
no subject
He made an attempt to move but he could barely feel his limbs. Some strands of Eponine's hair were still caught in his hands, and he ghosted two fingers against them with absent-mindedness as he wondered: Perhaps someone had found her, after all? Maybe they were giving her the antidote she needed?
He forced his eyes open even with the heaviness of his eyelids, to see whether Eponine had indeed been rescued, but when his vision focused he instead saw Cosette lying next to him, so close, her hair spread across the grass in a tangle of dark locks and white petals. The tinkle of her laughter blocked out the sound of Eponine's scream, and when a tremor wracked his body she reached out to him and caressed his cheek against the palm of her smooth, ungloved hand, and suddenly he no longer felt any pain.
He smiled at her, faintly, and as his vision clouded over he raised his eyes to a spot just above her shoulder and saw the moon and the stars in all their immaculate brightness watching over them. And for a very brief moment, he felt at peace.
Her loving, blue eyes was the last thing he saw before his eyes fluttered shut and the darkness enveloped him.
