ARENA 10-Placid Hollow

The Tributes are taken early in the morning, most of their support teams seeming in good cheer as they dress them in warm clothes, getting them to their tubes. There is obvious comfort in the familiar for the prep teams, and they chatter with, or in some cases, over the heads of their Tributes as they get them ready and load them up.

If the Tributes could see the area they are passed up into, they would see a deeply overgrown, dilapidated town green, with a large bandstand rotting away in the middle. The spoils of the cornucopia are not gathered in one spot, instead scattered throughout the thigh high grass and weeds around the town green.

Around the edge of the green, the old business stand a silent sentry, looming out of the fog as it thins and winds into them, providing much desired cover.

But the Tributes cannot see the ground around them. The fog, thicker even than it will be in the rest of the arena, makes the world small around them. The sound of the count down echoes strangely, the tributes seeming too close as the fog brings sounds of their breath, their coughing, the snap of twigs under their feet right to ears of the other Tributes. But with the fog bringing visibility down to only a few feet, it's hard to tell what is a true danger, and what is only the fog playing tricks on them,.

The gong rings out, and the countdown's voice announces "the Arena is now open". The Games have begun.

"I am well. But I am glad you have lost that dreadful Ian - now he is one that deserves to die, and I tell you now, I should kill him if he were here." She was very firm about that.

"What did you find? Should we find a place to hide and we can look?"
paidinbeer: (thinking is hard)

If she were keen would you be alright with Diana joining this thread? Or shall we save her forlater?

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-20 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Orc looked shocked and taken aback with her sharp distaste for someone that he thought of as a reasonable adult. "What did Ian do? Why do you want to kill him?" He sounded worried and confused looking over his shoulder as if Ian were to appear from the fog and Eponine would then rush him and kill him.

At her request he held up a bag that he'd picked up off the ground, it was still sealed and looked to be water tight. "Haven't looked in it yet, figured I'd wait till I was sitting down." Mostly because with his thick fingers and extra strength it was a much more delicate operation to open a bag and explore it's contents.
gardienne: (jealous reply)

whatever you like is fine by me!

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-20 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ian? Oh, he has you fooled, no? That slimy git of a man, he is as bad as my Pa. It is for him that Ian Gallagher is arrested and for him that I bear a burn on my back. That is why he should die." There was venom in her voice. Eponine was mad, vicious in her wrath for the man. "I hope someone gives him a painful death as I have been hurt and as Jessica and Carlos and Mindy have, and Ian indeed."

She shook her head and sighed. "Then we must find shelter together so we might sit and have a look, no? We should take our shoes off too - it is cold, but we can bear it. It will make us more quiet."

Kay~ I'll talk to her and find out her preference.

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-20 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
As sometimes happened when Eponine tried to explain things to Orc...it really just raised more questions. Given the situation though he would have to ask her about it in more detail later. She was right they needed to find shelter.

"I don't think taking off my shoes will make much of a difference." He added sounding unsure as he looked down at the over sized shoes he'd had slipped over his stone covered feet. "Rock on pavement makes plenty of noise all on it's own."

In favor of finding Shelter he gently took her hand and waited so that she could lead or have him lead through the fog.
gardienne: (I don't want your money)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-20 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This was the problem of being stuck with Orc. He was so big, so noisy and clumsy and so difficult to hide. For a moment, Eponine cursed her bad luck.

"They should make you flesh again. It is easier to hide." She said crossly. But all the same, she let him take her hand and she set out at a trudge through the fog.

"Can you see anything? Where shall we go? In Paris, it is better to walk to the outskirts when I am hiding from my Pa and the gang. They stay where the houses are."
paidinbeer: (I'll never be one of the guys)

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-20 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sorry." He apologized as though being made of stone or being lost in the fog could be helped at this point. He followed along the street at a steady pace so Eponine wouldn't have to pull too hard.

"That makes sense." He added "Everyone's gonna be looking for shelter." Some human shapes in the fog were lurking just beyond their sight and Orc felt wary of them. They were moving awfully slowly for tributes...
gardienne: (wary)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-20 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Eponine slowed as Orc did, and she looked back at him in bewilderment.

"What do you see?" She hissed. She followed the direction of his gaze and slowly her eyes made out the figures.

"Are they Tributes? Do you have any weapons?" She bent down to unlace her shoes. At least she could try to aim for the Tributes' heads, should they prove to be hostile.

"Check the bag." Orc ordered and inside she would find a canister of spray labeled "Acidic" and a pair of scissors mixed in with various foodstuffs.

Orc meanwhile let go of Eponine's hand and cracked his knuckles bracing himself to attack if needed.

From the fog three figures appeared, faceless pale human shaped creatures with horribly warped, elongated limb that were grasping in their direction.

"I don't think those are tributes." He sighed sounding disappointed in the appearance of monsters. He would have to fight now and that always upset Eponine.
gardienne: (worried)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-23 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh - Orc was getting bossy. Eponine glared at him, though, actually, she would think on reflection that it was a refreshing change that he was being assertive. She did as she was asked though, pulling out the can, and slowly spelling out the label for Orc. She went to hand it to him, keeping the scissors for herself. She knew how to stab someone... now.

Eponine stepped back as she saw the figures coming towards her. "Who... what are they, Orc?" She asked, a sense of foreboding suddenly coming over her.

"Should we run?" she hissed.
paidinbeer: (thinking is hard)

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-23 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Orc pushed the spray away, not willing to fuss with the can. It could be shared for later. For now he looked around trying to determine if they should run or not.

"I dunno...I could probably fight them." He hoped "But do you want to run instead?"

So much for being assertive.
gardienne: (resentful)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-24 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
She shrugged and pocketed the spray herself, along with a can of tuna. Good luck getting either back off her.

She rolled her eyes, and began to tug him away. "It's too early for you to die. You would be no use to me dead, will you? Come - this is not a fight for us now."
paidinbeer: (14 year old powerhouse)

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-24 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Orc considered it for a moment longer and nodded. "OK, here hold on."

Scooping her up he held her as comfortably as he could manage in his thick arms, keeping one arm out in case he needed to swat at anything...and he ran.

He ran with all the lumbering grace of a rhinoceros. Each rumbling step seemed to shake the Earth under him as he built up speed slowly. Orc's reasoning was that they would get far away from these things and he wouldn't have to worry about losing Eponine in the fog.
gardienne: (watching sadly)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-24 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she hadn't expected that! Perhaps she would give back the acid spray after all. She was keeping the tuna though.

She clung onto Orc, wrapping her arms quite firmly about his neck. It would probably be better to be carried piggy-back style, but Eponine wasn't about to object to being carried in his arms. She loved that he felt the need to protect her in such a way, though she was certain that she could have run off by herself and hidden effectively enough that the faceless...things... whatever they were, would never find her.

All she said, though, was, "Am I seeing things? I am not, am I? Those things were truly in front of us, no?"

SUDDENLY DIANA (bad language warning? idek)

[personal profile] keep_surviving 2014-05-24 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
As usual Diana had used the Cornucopia blood bath time to get far away from most of the more murder happy tributes who liked to get a head start on the body counts.

She was trying to quietly move around the area and not get totally disorientated in the fog when she heard the pounding footsteps.

She stood still. Hoping whatever it was was far enough in either direction that it wouldn't make her out as human in the thick blanket of gray and would just run straight passed her.

As they grew closer however, she recognized the unhealthy and loud panting and more importantly, the noise of gravel scraping pavement and itself.

Calling out would be risky, but maybe it was time she started taking more risks. "That you, Charlie?" She waves through the fog.

Wait, why the hell is Orc running? Orc doesn't run. What would be dangerous enough to make the living boulder run?

Well, so much for risk taking Diana, you fucking idiot.
paidinbeer: (what's that?)

XD YAY

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-24 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah I saw em too. Creepy things." He grumbled feeling irritated that the Capitol was attempting to ruin horror movies for him. Then a voice called out in the fog.

"Diana?" His eyes went wide at seeing the familiar figure in the fog. At his size he couldn't slow down without tripping over himself.

So instead with his free arm he scooped Diana around the middle and hauled her off the ground over his shoulder.

"Sorry, can't stop to talk." He explained through his heavy breathing.

"Oof!" Eponine groaned as she shifted against Orc's heaving rocky chest. She adjusted herself so she clung instead to the crags on Orc's shoulders so that Diana did not end up squishing her.

"There are monsters, Mademoiselle." Eponine explained to Diana. She was not happy. Diana had teased her last time. Why was Orc saving her now?
keep_surviving: (Remark)

[personal profile] keep_surviving 2014-05-24 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... This was a greeting.

Diana manages to pull a face despite being bounced up and down like a ragdoll. Whiplash here we come.

"Urg, don't call me that, Eppy. It's all Enjolras kept saying when I was talking to him."

Mademoiselle just sounded so... Sweet. And nice. Tame and well mannered.

Basically not a good way to address Diana or the kind of person she was.

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-24 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like zombies but faceless." Orc continued to explain the monsters despite them having moved on to another topic.

Despite being out of shape, Orc could keep a steady pace for a long time and so once he slowed from charging to a jog he was making good time crossing the small town. The zombies were long behind them now but who knew what other horrors lurked in the fog?

He didn't have much of a plan though so he kept running.
gardienne: (jealous reply)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-24 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you think they'll eat us?" Eponine was remembering R, her only reference of a zombie, eating her in the desert. "If they catch us and go to eat us, please, Orc, kill me first. I cannot bear to be eaten alive again."

She stayed clinging to Orc even as he continued and continued to run.

"What are we going to do? You can't run forever, can you, Charles?"
keep_surviving: (Insult)

[personal profile] keep_surviving 2014-05-24 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, being eaten alive is an option now? Great."

Diana had to admit she wasn't totally impressed with the way the arena was starting out.

"Not that I'm not totally loving the fact you dragged me into a zombie chase here, Charlie. But since it looks like we've lost them would you mind putting me down? I'm getting motion sickness up here."
paidinbeer: (what's that?)

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-24 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh...sorry."

He slowed to a trot and then came to a stop, his beady eyes focusing in the fog for a moment as he set the girls down.

Curiously, he got down on his hands and knees and crawled forward. It was a peculiar site to see someone so large crawling around like a toddler.

Sure enough, just beyond the fog was the edge of the street. And quite possibly the edge of the arena. He couldn't see very far into it and it was lucky Diana had stopped them when she did or the three of them might have gone tumbling into nothingness and sent right back to the Capitol on day one.
gardienne: (jealous reply)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-25 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"What are you doing?" Eponine followed suit and dropped to her knees to crawl next to Orc. "Are there more of those monsters? Or - OH!" She realised what she was looking at, or rather, what she was not looking at.

"We're at the end, aren't we?" She stood up, looking back at Diana. She seemed to have all the answers, and Eponine, still consumed by thoughts of her father, couldn't even be bothered trying to come up with a plan.

"What do we do now?"
keep_surviving: (Interest)

[personal profile] keep_surviving 2014-05-25 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Diana's mouth can't help curl in amusement at the visual image of Orc and Eponine crawling about on the floor.

There's a brief moment as she thinks, the begins rubbing her now sore neck as she answers. "Well, first of all, I'd like to get away from the big drop of death and maybe inside a house or something since now there's apparently zombies hanging around in the fog."

"And secondly, I'd love to know what's in there, Charlie." She points at the bag he has.
paidinbeer: (watching you)

[personal profile] paidinbeer 2014-05-26 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Orc stood up and backed away from the edge slowly. "Yeah sure, take a look inside. Eponine could you give Diana one of the weapons?" He asked her gently watching the two girls protectively. "Just in case something comes."

All too willing to help he fumbled with the bag to open it exposing some food stuffs and basic supplies. 1 can of soup, 1 package of dehydrated meat strips, 1 package of wheat crackers, a 10' spool of wire, a sleeping bag and flash light.
gardienne: (I don't want your money)

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-05-27 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Eponine glared at Orc resentfully. Why was he letting Diana have a weapon? He'd want his back, wouldn't he? And then she'd be left with none. Maybe that was his plan. Was he getting fed up of her? Diana was prettier than her. And wittier. Would he want Diana instead.

Silently, sullenly, she handed over the acid spray. She didn't really know what it was, whereas she knew, at least, that she could use the scissors and stab someone, should she have to.

She peered into the bag. "Wire, always wire. What are we supposed to do with wire. We should save the food until we are dizzy, though."
