Arena 06 - Happy
The last few hours before the Arena have a strangely stifled quality, as if half the people they interact with are trying very hard not to laugh. Maybe it's the costumes, the fancy gowns and velvet tunics, the short capes. Or maybe it's their destination.
The round courtyard to which the tubes bring them could not be more different from the last arena. Though outside the circle of pedestals, disrepair and neglect has taken over the roads and buildings, the garden inside the circle could not be more perfectly sculpted. Every hedge is a smooth, rounded shape. Flowers bloom brightly in concentric circles of insane color. The Cornucopia sits gleaming and golden, and just in front of its mouth, a bronze statue of a man and a mouse stands amid the heap of supplies.
Aside from it, there is a hush. No flies in the flowers, no wind in the trees. It is a cool day, with the comfortable chill of early spring and noon's short shadows.
Outside the circle, behind the tributes on the northern side, a castle looms. Through its wide gate, devastation everywhere, but it, itself, is shining clean, glowing pink and blue. Opaque windows look down from the heights of it, as uncaring as every hidden camera the veterans know is there.
Music starts as the countdown nears the bottom, a whimsical, dramatic tune.
And with the final note, the gong rang out, and a firework shot into the sky from the castle's peak, bright enough to burst redly across the sky above them all. Let the Games begin.
((OOC NOTES: IF YOUR CHARACTER HAS POWERS THE CAPITOL HAS NERFED, make sure you are on this list.
And everyone really should review the arena post. Because there's a little more to play with than you might think.
And please remember to add your character's tag to each post they're in.))

Harley Quinn (open) (Wanted: Someone to wound her)
A blond girl in a yellow dress let out a cheer and pumped her fists in the air as she raced for the same pile of items as all the others.
"If there's a mallet in there somewhere I call dibs!" She shouted to the other tributes though she expected no one would be that helpful.
Upon learning that this contest was broadcast across the land Harley had become determined to make the most of her temporary fame. And so to put on a show she performed a graceful spin making her dress flutter as she raced in a wild zig zag towards the nearest person she could harass for items.
Re: Harley Quinn (open) (Wanted: Someone to wound her)
Shuffling back into the fray, R suspected he probably should come up with a better plan of attack than Grab Whatever Moves. Usually it worked. Today? Not so much.
The hunger just pointed. Any half-assed plans R came up with went out the window. Okay, so big guys weren't something R wanted to tackle solo. Try the girls this time. He was taller than most of the girls, that had to amount to something. R closed in on one of them, who was a lot more limber than anyone should be, Living or Dead, zig-zagging and cartwheeling, and by the time R intercepted her, he was already having second thoughts about this being an easy meal compared to the last one. Anyway, it was too late to back off. He needed more than a little bite. Stupid plan or not, he was committed.
R suddenly materialized in front of Harley as if he stumbled into the Arena by accident. The zombie's face was a mask of fresh blood as he grabbed at her legs like he was a football player trying to tackle her to the ground.
Re: Harley Quinn (open) (Wanted: Someone to wound her)
Still when R appeared in front of her, even the almost unflappable Harley was given cause for a shriek and her being startled kept her from springing away. Her legs swung out from under her and she felt her face slam into the ground under her. Luckily she avoided a broken nose. But she knew there'd be some road rash.
More important though was the freaky looking kid who tackled her. She flailed her limbs and lashed out with all four of them in a desperate attempt to free herself.
Where'd you want R to get her?
She dislocated his shoulder.
It popped free as one of her flailing legs caught him.
Suddenly one of his arms was flopping around, even as he tried to grapple with her and grab whatever he could to start eating. Arm, leg, throat - it didn't matter. The fact she was still alive didn't stop him. The merciful thing to do was try to kill her quick, start after she was in her death throes, but R was starved enough that he didn't care if he went for the throat or ankle. They hit the pavement hard and bumped against the edge of the Cornucopia, sending precious cans of food rolling away. Clothes ripped. R hung onto the girl as best he could, wishing in the back of his mind M was here to help keep her down.
After a few seconds, R couldn't wait any longer. His head jerked down toward the girl, jaws gaping wide.
Taken care of!
"Leggo you smelly creep!" She swung her fist tears running down her face as she tried to knock him free. "I am NOT a cheeseburger! Come on we've only been in here five minutes you can't be hungry already!!!"
Jokes were a coping mechanism. Fear mingled with anger as she tried to suss out what sort of lunatic this guy was.
(Btw, you can do whatever you want do him, just leave his head alone) :)
He wilted inwardly. Screaming and tears. Again. They were never enough to make him actually stop, re-evaluate what he was doing with his un-life, but they were close. It took the edge of feeding most of the time.
R managed to hang on as she nailed him in the head, clinging and gnawing at her for the first hit, knowing in the back of his mind that since he was attacking solo, this might be the only bite he got. R tried to grab at her with his good hand, clumsy, barely holding on and trying to use his height against her as they slammed against the Cornucopia's side. Some of the girl's blood speckled against the side of it as R suddenly released her...only to dive back in for another bite attempt, deciding he was a thigh kind of zombie today.
No worries, I think I'll have someone come in and drag her away so she doesn't go too far :P
"You like that huh ya creepo? Well how about a taste of THIS!?" shouting as she swung her foot hard for his knees.
Gotcha!
R almost choked on the chunk of Girl he had in his mouth as he pitched against the Cornucopia, about to swallow and glad he hadn't. It dribbled out and down his chest as he recovered, much more slowly than she did, thinking he might've cracked a few ribs and not even entirely sure.
The zombie's blackened lips peeled back at the girl, eyes on the prize, as he made another clumsy lunge. For a guy who got the jump on Harley, he sure left a lot of openings.
Re: Gotcha!
"You're no Killer Croc you Goth dropout!" It still hadn't dawned on Harley that this kid wasn't just a regular kid. Though her own face was starting to pale from the red rage it had been flushed with a moment before. Her efforts were not without sound wounds though. He was getting deep scratches in her legs, ripping at her stockings.

At the rate she danced about him, R wasn't sure if he'd get another bite in. He could always wait for her to bleed out but that would take too long according to his hunger. When she snarled at him, R snarled right back at her, almost angry she was challenging him.
A few times she drove him to his knees or smashed him back up against the Cornucopia's metal walls, but each time he lumbered back up to his feet like a broken record, swaying unevenly, balancing more and more weight on his broken foot.

Harley was the only element in this particular equation she cared about - namely, how to remove the blond from it. For that effect, she sprung forward, bounding off her hands and trying to aim a kick straight at Harley's center. If she could separate them, she could move into ending the fighting.
Hopefully R wouldn't bother to chase them.

...the side that the Zombie had bitten.
Pain shot through her and she saw her red world go white and the next thing she knew she was on the ground curled up in a ball clutching at the wound as blood seeped through her fingers.
"C-cheap shot..." She wheezed as every muscle in her body clenched and shivered.

"YOU can yell at me later."

(Also he had no idea what just happened. Suddenly girls are flying out of nowhere kicking each other).

"Ooo, birdies..." She joked weakly feeling the surprisingly strong younger woman dragging her away. Vaguely she wondered if she'd get a second shot at the shambling shuffling goth. But it took the rest of her brain to stay awake as the red stain spread across her blouse.

If Harley didn't start pulling her weight soon, though, they might suffer the embarrassment of getting outrun by a one-good-footed zombie.
