Now that Ian was covered head to foot in a black robe he was finding things a little easier, it was still unbearably hot during the day but at least his skin wasn't blistering. At least not any more than it already had. His feet were a mess, blistered and burnt from the hot sand and he swore as he walked.

He was looking for food, Marius should be alright looking for water, though Ian worried about the guy every time they split up.

He realised that in a place where the aim was to be the last one standing worrying about others was a bit stupid, but he wasn't going to abandon his humanity just because he was a captive.

He paused to take a mouthful of water, they had plenty even if it was important to find more, if they were to last long.

Ian grinned back, happy to share. He had still been getting water at least, but apart from that nothing, since his sleeping bag. He guessed he wasn't being interesting enough, he didn't care.

His smile faded though and turned into a glare, "You calling me a thief?"

"No," he said quickly, not wanting to get into a fight with a child. He didn't move, trying to appear non-threatening, but kept a tight hold of the water bottle. "I expect it came down close to you by mistake and you naturally assumed it was yours."

Ian clenched his fists but forced himself to calm down. Losing his temper would help no one, and probably just get himself killed.

"I tend to assume that things belong to me when they have my fucking name on them."

Ian hadn't missed the clenched fists. "Don't talk to me in that tone of voice," he said in his teacher's voice, not considering whether it would be a good idea or not. "You should have said your name was Ian too."

The bottle just had those three letters on, no surname. And perhaps Ian should have checked before he suggested it was for him, but he didn't think that justified the other Ian swearing like that.

"We're in a fucking death match and you're lecturing me on tone?" Ian raised his eyebrow, clenching his fists again.

"And maybe you should have considered that you're not the only person called Ian in the world before assuming I was a thief."

Ian rolled his eyes. This boy was defensive, but it at least seemed like he was all talk. "I didn't assume you were a thief. I assumed you took it by accident."

He knew he should give the water back, but he really needed some and wasn't quite ready to relinquish it just yet.

"Yeah?" It was too hot to fight, especially over something so stupid. So Ian forced himself to calm down and shrugged. "Keep it."

He had plenty anyways. "Just check your facts before accusing people."

"Thanks, I will." He smiled at Ian, ignoring his attitude and acting pleasant in response.

Ian wished he had pockets to shove his hands in, instead he folded them in his robe.
