Perhaps she had gotten reckless, or perhaps she was just bored. But Sandy had found herself peering over the edge into one of the many fissures that had decorated the Arena...or what was left of the arena.
"Have people really been living down in these things?" In all of her hiding around she had seen people climbing in and out of the fissures. Or more often then not falling into them.
It wasn't a bad idea to hide down there. The real question would be if she could get down there and then back out again. The Ice Axe hanging off her hip had gotten her this far. Did she trust it to carry her the rest of the way?
While she was pondering all of this she took out her last can of food and quietly thanked whoever had taken pity on her and sent what felt like forever ago. She had been saving it as long as she dared but if she was going to climb down into some bottomless pit she would need her strength.

Waking up, she returns to her blue form and hears a voice coming from above. Then she spies a familiar face peering down into the abyss. Lovely, she gets to finish the job now!
Smirking, she shifts forms again - this time into a red-haired Irishwoman and lets out enough of a scream that the vibrations crack the ice that Sandy's standing on, caving in and pulling the girl down with it.

Soundlessly she went over the edge.
Tumbling head over heels instinct kicked in and she felt a familiar tightness overcome her. It was a feeling she had missed for so long. Of course she had no idea if it would save her life so all she could do was scream as she plummeted to the bottom of the pit, no longer of flesh and bone but a body of solid stone crashing to the ground and causing and explosion of ice crystals around her.
Groaning she sat up feeling pain all through her. Much to her horror cracks had appeared along her stone skin from the force of the impact and they stung like needles. Still she was alive which was better then she had hoped.

In what can only be best-described as some kind of crazy fluke, she's completely unharmed by the ice crystals - the shards have all managed to embed themselves around her frame with absolutely no effort on her part.
Welcome to the pit, Sandy. Meet Domino, the real-life Lady Luck herself.

She scrambled clumsily to get to her feet, churning up snow and ice as she clawed at the ground and her boots slid trying to find purchase before she was on her feet and running. There wasn't very far to go though and she was forced to stop where the chasm came to a sudden sharp end.
Trapped!

Meet Sabretooth, the mutant that killed Copycat before she ended up in Panem. Yes, he's smiling like the cat that ate the canary.

"Why are you playing their game?"

Reasoning with Sabretooth is about as effective as putting out a grease fire with water.

Tears started pouring down her face she felt her nose running not for the first time since she'd arrived here.
She knew the world was watching right now, seeing that scrawny little girl covered in cracks like a worn out piece of pavement. Helpless in the face of oncoming death.
"P-please..." She found the words falling from her lips to the snow at her feet. "I-I don't want to die..." She felt numb from her toes up and her stomach churned on the nothing that she had eaten in the last twelve hours. Could she still throw up if she hadn't eaten anything?

It's enough, however, to reign in Sabretooth's sadistic nature and instead of torturing the girl to death, he leaps forward with the intent to snap her neck and end it quickly.

She felt thick man fingers curling around her head and instantly her hands flew to grab at his arms and try to pry them away. Clawed at him desperately with stiff stone fingers.
Stone cracked, a sickening crunch and her eyes went wide and mouth hung open. Her stone skin was shiny and slick with tears.
The body came away. Rather then snapping her neck the stone had shattered, and the head had come free from her body. The body fell to the ground hard and heavy cracking the ice and leaking blood onto it.
As Sandy's world faded to darkness she found herself wishing for her Father...
