Carnage in the Caves

Who| Participants in the bloodbath
What| Murder and mayhem ensue after the jabberjays chase people into the caves.
Where| Deep within the caves. This area of the caves cannot be broken into or escaped from until 24 hours have passed.
When| Over a twenty-four hour period beginning now.
Warnings/Notes| Violence, death, gore, etc. You have been assigned a target to kill, but you may run into other characters in the caves as well.

The jabber jays begin their screaming, driving you deep into the caves in an attempt to escape the cries of your loved ones being tortured, beaten, or killed. When the maddening sounds finally cease, you will find yourself trapped in a series of corridors and caves, sealed tight with no chance for escape. Luckily there are plenty of weapons and supplies at hand (machetes, axes, hunting knifes, swords, maces, spears, clubs, hammers, scythes, bows & arrows, food, water, clean clothes), but any delusions of good fortune are soon squashed when an announcer assigns each person a target and gleefully informs you that you must kill your target within 24 hours or else you will run out of oxygen and die.

Over the next 24 hours, you will be tasked with killing this person in any manner you can. You may also happen upon other unfortunate souls trapped in the caves, but be wary of befriending them down here. They're on a mission too, and there's no rules against collateral damage.

Good luck, and don't forget to put on a show.

That was a less than fantastic opening to the fight, but Haruto has been in this sort of position before. All sorts of things had come running at him with intent to kill. That he'd been armored up and superpowered at the time surely didn't matter that much. He reacted without hesitation, spinning the rifle and shifting his grip on it as he took a step back, aiming to use it to catch and divert the spear.

In the process of doing this the rifle goes off again, firing a bullet into the ceiling of the cave. It is beginning to occur to Haruto that he should put this thing down and draw his sword, and soon.

Annoyance is apparent in Thor's expression when he doesn't hit his target straight away, but it doesn't stop him from trying again. He flinches at the second shot, glancing up at the ceiling and back to Haruto with a pointedly unimpressed look.

He attempts to drive the spear at Haruto again, using more power in his thrust now that he's closer in his range. He'll also attempt to swing Haruto to the side and against the wall of the cave.

Haruto can admit when something hadn't worked out as well as he'd have liked. Thor's pointed look gets a quick shrug and roll of his eyes, and then he's just trying to swing the butt of the rifle at Thor's jaw before releasing it and letting it clatter to the cave floor. Thankfully, it does not accidentally go off again.

The goal of the moment is to get some space between himself and his opponent, while also not getting painfully run through. He dodges again, the spear point narrowly missing him and slashing superficially past his side, finding a few moments and enough inches of free space to get his sword drawn. But it's not enough time to do anything useful like swing with it or parry, because Thor's follow-through attempt to throw him against the wall works, momentarily stunning him and leaving him with much less room to maneuver.

Haruto's swing aims true and hits Thor quite painfully against his jaw. It sends a ringing and a pounding through his head, but his thick skull has gotten him through tougher scrapes before.

Thor doesn't waste much time once Haruto is stunned and in place, not now that he has a sword out. He aims to plunge his spear in him again. He leaves no room for his own hesitation and he's brutal, but there seems to be no interest in an attempt to play with his food.

He's here to kill Haruto, so that's what he's going to do.

The dance of combat is one that Haruto is very familiar with, or one that he thinks he is. He's had plenty of fancy duels, fought off hordes of monsters, and made a good show of it all the while... so he's expecting that the moment he can move again, he'll easily swing his sword in a parry, deflect any incoming spear strikes, and keep things rolling.

He thinks wrong, because he can't move fast enough. Because Thor's not here to make it showy. That spear driving into his chest comes as such a surprise that all he manages is a grunt and gurgling sound, painful as it might be.

This isn't how it was supposed to go, he tells himself as his eyes sink down to stare at the weapon piercing him and as his free hand begins to reach up to grasp the shaft. He's as good as dead and he hasn't quite realized it.

Perhaps in another fight, Thor would have drawn it out for glory and honor and everything good about a battle. He would have complimented Haruto's prowess and he would never go for the kill unless it were necessary. As it is, the kill is all Thor is after. There's no showmanship, just a thorough and steadfast approach.

His expression is damn near blank, but his eyes bore into Haruto while he surveys the scene in front of him. He jerks the spear backward when Haruto places a hand on it, only so he can drive it back down into him and aim for a more vital area.

It seems like he wants to talk, but the only sound he makes is an exhale. It's as if he's relieved, and this time he pulls the spear back so he can hold it at his side and wait for Haruto to die.

Haruto's reaction to the spear drawing back is to try and grab it, though there's no sense in doing so. There's not a lot of sense left in him, period. There's the absent idea of possibly wrestling it away, but no idea of what to do past that. And then, no need and no time, for Thor is quick to drive that spear into his heart rather than his guts.

His own legs can't support him any longer, and that confused look on his face is giving way to horror. He has lost, and now he knows that he has lost, and now he is dying. With the spear pulled free one last time he lets out a choking cry and collapses. If he's not dead then, then he's surely dead shortly afterwards. Can the canon boom even be heard this far underground? Maybe they'll pipe it in for everyone's benefit.
