EVENT

It is early morning, when all the animals suddenly go silent. The day before, those paying close attention might have noticed some restless behavior, but who wouldn't be restless trapped in the arena.

The eerie silence only last a moment of two before suddenly there is a deep growl, an awful sound of rupturing, and then the whole world is shaking.

Part of the old building, the part closest to the ocean, sways precariously, holding on for one moment, before it, and a large section of the cliffs crashed into the ocean.

They send a wave surging out, away from the land. However, when it hits the invisible edge of the arena, although a large amount of the force presses right through, there is still enough caught with in the force field to bounce back, sending a sizable wave that manged to crest over the top of the cliffs, washing away anything too close to shore.

The force field manages to hold, clearly better built than what would normally surround an arena.

When everything settles, half of the building now sits in the ocean. One the west side, many of the halls and rooms are now open to the air. The path to the ocean is gone, and several older, weaker trees have collapsed to the ground as well.

In the Capitol, the electricity stutters, before going out. It is restored quickly in many places, but some are without electricity for up to 45 minutes.

OOC| Death roll will be posted shortly, so feel free to use this as inspiration to your plotting there. Feel free to ask any questions here, but please use that post for OOC plotting.

In a very literal sense, Some existed for earthquakes. His role in his people was as an escape route in such times. Here, though, he was stripped of that. Couldn't teleport, couldn't help anyone. He wasn't even below ground when the quake hit, was on the surface, in the thick undergrowth at the edge of the forest. He flattened himself to the earth as it shook, fingers and toes digging into the thick, weedy soil.

When it's still, he's nearly to his feet before the roar of water. He shouts in fear as he sees trees sway and fall, but the water doesn't reach him, the forest where he is is still, still and safe.

At first he thinks it's his imagination, his radiation addled brain beginning to hallucinate. He plants his feet apart, trying to stave what he thinks is simply dizziness, but as the ground begins to shake hard enough to send him falling back against a tree, he realizes.

The scientist sits with his back against it, folding his arms over his head protectively. As the shaking fades, he begins to unfurl, only to freeze as he hears the crash of the ocean. Close, but it doesn't reach him. A near miss.

Some is slow on his feet, slinking from tree to tree, approaching the water to see what the damage was. To see if anyone needed help. When he saw the human, he lifted a hand to draw his attention. "Are you hurt?"

Grey's head jerks up at the sound of Some's voice, a movement he regrets immediately. Grimacing as his head spins and throbs, he blinks dumbly at the creature. "...Hurt?"

Why was this creature, this grue, asking him if he was hurt? In the middle of a death match? Why did he seem concerned?

"...No." He says carefully, after a few more moments. The scientist uses the piece of re-bar he'd dropped to help himself to his feet again. Wherever his skin is exposed, there's red rashes visible. He looks feverish.

Some nodded, giving the human a once-over. He wasn't steady on his feet either, holding one forefoot to his chest where a cut had not begun to heal, his eyes red-rimmed and his fur dull. "... You're ill too?"

He has to struggle not to laugh. Such the wrong place to be attempting to make friends- ...what was it's name?

Some.

"Quite." He confirms, taking a few steps towards the grue before stopping, unsure. Perhaps it would be best to let it approach him. He presses the back of his arm to his mouth as he fights down another wave of intense nausea, swallowing hard. As if there's even anything in his stomach to bring up.

Some approached, holding up both hands to show he was unarmed. He didn't want a repeat of his encounter with Eliot. "Everyone's ill. I think it must be the water..."

"It's not the water."

It's all Grey says before a second hand grips the piece of re-bar and he swings it with all the strength left to him for the side of Some's head.

If his hands hadn't already been upraised, the bar would have struck the grue across the eyes. Instead, he got his arm up in time for the bar to break it.

"No!"

At first he's irritated at the block. A head injury would have been good. He could have taken out some eyes as well. But then... crippling the limbs will ensure Some doesn't escape him, now won't it?

His second swing is for Some's good foreleg, right at the knee.

Some was too slow in scrambling back, and the blow put him on the ground. "Mister Grey! Stop!" he shouted, voice shrill with fear as he tried to get up again, using his lower arms to prop himself. "I'm not a threat!"
greymatter: (Schadenfreude.)

[personal profile] greymatter 2012-11-30 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I've noticed." He replies dryly, bringing the re-bar down sharply across Some's shoulder and collarbone. Winding back, he swings again, aiming for Some's head once more.

Some couldn't block this time, with the last free arm on that side already broken. He shrieked with both his voices, loud enough to silence the few birds who had begun to sound again in the aftermath of the quake, and and collapsed, curling half-consciously in on himself, trying to protect his head. He was bleeding badly, two eyes on that side having been caught by the blow, and he knew what was coming next. But he still lifted a hand, trying to plead for Grey to stop even while he couldn't speak.
greymatter: (A little unwell.)

[personal profile] greymatter 2012-11-30 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
The calm is suddenly gone as Some collapses and curls up in defense, as that tiny gesture of helplessness is raised towards him, and the grin is unmistakable as he brings the piece of construction material down on Some again. And again, and again, and again. No longer pausing to consider where best to land his blows. No longer thinking.

Some felt his jaw crack and his ribs, and then he lost even that much awareness as the blows continued. For a short while, he felt nothing but pain and saw nothing but splintered light. And then he felt nothing at all.

His cannon sounded a moment later.
greymatter: (The doctor is in...sane.)

[personal profile] greymatter 2012-11-30 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
He continues to beat Some's body several seconds after the sound of cannon fire, vaguely aware of the sound of laughter past the ringing in his ears. It isn't until he stops that he realizes it's coming from him.

Unsteady, he places the end of the bloodied re-bar against the ground and leans against it, coughing as he tries to catch his breath. He's beginning to retch as the hovercraft appears overhead to collect Some's body, and he stumbles out of the way, dry heaving beside a tree before collapsing against it.

As the hovercraft departs with broken body, he rests his head back against the tree and grins.
