Mini Arena 2

Tributes are woken early, and the hovercraft ride is a long one. Not the longest some have experienced, but they are clearly going far.

25 - 24 - 23

They land on the deck of the boat, and are ushered underneath, to the lower levels, quickly. Their stylists go from cabin to cabin, decking them out in over the top finery, before loading them into the pods installed into the corners of the rooms.

20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16

The platforms lift them up, and they are all ringed around a grand buffet table, loaded with a grand feast looking ready to sag down from the weight. Among the food are supplies, plenty of them, all for the taking.

11- 10 - 9 - 8

They've all been warned, don't step off your pedestal early. They have also been warned to put on a good show. That's all this is about, a good show. None of them have been told that there can be multiple winners this time around.

The sound of the gong plays crystal clear across the opening. The games have begun.

She blinked at him slowly, then looked to the wires. Then her gaze moved to the glowing sparking water, then to the exploded rat. Then back to him.

Then back to the wires.

"Not really no." She confessed betraying her ignorance.

"Its a live electric wire," Don replied, pointing to the wire. "Electricity, its...basically what lightning's made of. Just generally grounded, but that live wire? Isn't grounded. Meaning if it touches water - or something that's on the water - it'll instantly ground through you, electrocute you and kill you!"

"I...ground? What?" This all sounded vaguely familiar. In her mind she was drawn back to a situation where lightning was striking Berk aggressively and she thought it was the gods anger.

"You mean they actually tried to contain Thor's power? Does Thor know?" She gaped and leaned in close once again making the hair on her head rise up.
polyturtle: (this final jeopardy is hard)

"Its not Thor's--" Well, probably, it was, considering there was a Thor, but. Semantics. "Its more complicated than that. Its not just magic, its science. Electricity is basically charged positive and negative ions, and an electrical current is electricity that flows through a conductor to the ground!"

Another line of complete dumbfounded and confused staring. She turned her attention back to the water and studied it looking obviously dumbfounded.

"Ions?" She asked as if that would clear it up. She seemed to have spotted something in the water because she drew closer to it squinting.

"Electric particles."

Don's eyes watched Ruffnut as it moved closer. As much as he had promised to win, he also knew being electrocuted was a nasty end. Not exactly one he'd wish for a kid like this. A kid who was probably around his age.

"What are you doing!? Don't touch it-!"
ruffntumblenut: (Hang on this is complicated)

"There's something in there. Look!"

She pointed with her finger only two inches from the surface at the water.

"If you can't swim it's fine, I'm a great swimmer."
polyturtle: (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA)

"I'm actually a good swimmer, but that's not the--"

Point. Instinct to protect overtook his caution, and he leapt forward.

"DON'T TOUCH IT-!"
ruffntumblenut: (U fail forever)

[personal profile] ruffntumblenut 2014-08-21 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ruffnut unfortunately mistook this as an attack and let out a yelp diving for his legs trying to scramble past him and in the process crashing headfirst into them.

...well at least she was away from the water. However momentum might be a problem.

cw: electrocution

[personal profile] polyturtle 2014-08-22 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Momentum wasn't just a problem for Don; it was positively fatal as, suddenly, he found himself flying from the hit, right into the water.

"No-"

And then he was shuddering, dancing, as he hit the water face first. The voltage shot violently through him, and sickening snaps could be heard in the water and in the turtle himself as time went by. There was no more intelligible sound to be heard from him, even while his body involuntarily smoked and jerked long after life had left it.

Ruffnut's eyes went wide as she spun about on the ground to watch Don's death. She'd seen people get electrocuted before but Vikings were a sturdy enough bunch that it had been little more then a laugh.

This was clearly not the case as the Turtle man splashed into the water and lay still, smoldering and jerking.

Despite herself, she couldn't help but smile.

"That...was awesome!"
