Don't ever split the party
Who| Lyle, Nasir, and Rokk
What| The Capitol has failed to kill Lyle. Clearly, they should have hired a professional.
Where| Amusement Park
When| Backdated to a couple days after the first Hellrena (late week 2)
Warnings/Notes| Swearing and death.
Lyle really, really hated watching the people he loved die.
Sure, their mutual emotional epiphany was probably interesting enough to have guaranteed Brainy's revival, but Lyle wouldn't know until he was back there himself. And he'd still had to nurse Brainy through the infection and fever and whatever the fuck that Hellscape had been. And now he had to try and carry on in a way that both impressed on the Capitol viewers how much that fucking hurt while still preserving a scrap of dignity for himself to survive on.
Splitting up with Cos was a bad idea, they both knew that. But there were some things that Lyle just could not fucking deal with in the presence of other sentients, and it turned out that Brainy's slow and lingering death was one of them. So he'd promised to stay within screaming range and gotten himself a little space to...
...Mostly to try not to start either screaming and punching things or curl up in a ball and hope that something ate him. Not that he actually wanted something to eat him, but it would dovetail nicely with the creepy Blight ambiance that this Arena had going for it.
In retrospect, he shouldn't have gone into the amusement park. He'd hidden in one of those during the Blight; and while holing up in the houses had been bad, they'd at least been different enough from what he was used to for him to avoid some of the worse memories of that time. This place...
No, he wasn't so contrary that he was going to keep walking into something that felt this much like a trap. Lyle turned and began heading back the way he'd came, back toward his teammate still breathing in the Arena.
He sprocking hated this place.

Then he came out of the fog, still advancing in silence.
He knew this one. He'd fought him before in the training center and prevailed. But this was not training. Nasir would not be defeated again.

He veered left, off from his direct path back to Cos, picking up his pace and hoping his feet wouldn't find one of those nasty bugs in the fog.

Nasir didn't hate Lyle but he was annoying. He didn't feel too bad about trying to rip his scalp from his skull with the hook of his crowbar.

"COS!" he shouted, scrambling backward in an effort to escape. "COOOOOOOOS!"
Sprock sprock sprock sprock!

Too bad he'd clearly missed something in this sprocking fog as he suddenly heard Lyle's voice shouting for him desperately.
The second he heard his name shouted like that, Cos was running towards the sound, desperately searching the murk around him for Invisible Kid.
"Kid!"
He couldn't lose another. He couldn't.
cw: language
He aimed the canister of acid right at Lyle's eyes and sprayed him. And then he heard the responding shout.
Fuck.
Re: cw: language
Acid to the face: not a pretty way to go. And not a quiet one either.
