WEAPONS ROLL RUN

"The museum will be closing in half an hour. At that time, something very special will be distributed to the Tributes brave enough to risk their peers at the first floor elevators."

The storm is still raging outside, casting everything on the first floor in a dim light occasionally shattered by flashes of lightning. The thunder rolling in the background seems to set the tone, although some may find it a welcome distraction from silence.

Half an hour passes. Five minutes before it's done, the elevators cease functioning, leaving Tributes to use the stairwells.

Each elevator door opens to reveal a handful of weapons: firecrackers, revolvers, grenades. There are no threats to the Tributes who try to retrieve them - none but their fellow competitors.

[OOC note: party-style post. Everyone tag away.]

It was easier, supporting each other. Whenever one of them stumbled, the other was there to hold them up, and anytime they stumbled together, they managed to gain steady footing together. Eventually they got away from the ruckus and the thundercracks, up the stairs to one of the other levels.

"We should find somewhere. Somewhere to hide."

To rest.

The adrenaline was wearing off.

"Yeah, ok." Mindy would be grateful for that. She hated running and moving when she was injured, because it meant having to work against already losing some of the momentum. When she regrouped, she at least could measure out about how much she could stand.

"Let's head over that bathroom. We can at least wash up a little there."

"Okay. Okay."

They made it in without difficulty and fortunately no one was there. Guy eventually had to let her go to lean against the wall so he didn't drag her down with him as he collapsed against it, sliding down to his knees, then turning so he sat back against it, the back of his head against the cool tiles.

"That was - that was maybe a bad plan. Trying to get - to get one of the things."

Mindy headed straight for the sink, wining as warm water poured over her open cuts. It stung, but it had to be done: couldn't afford to get any museum pieces in her skin and start to get infected. She gave Guy a side view before promptly dipping her head under the sink and bringing it up again, getting flecks of water everywhere.

"No, that plan was logical. We just sucked at it."

"Logical for you, maybe. I don't think I could've even figured out how to use one of those things. I just hoped I'd be able to figure it out and that it'd be useful."

He took a few minutes to keep breathing deep breaths and then finally tried to stand, leaning heavily against the wall at first and then staggering over to the sink with her, leaning against it once he got there.

Then he stated to splash water against his arm and his side which were still soaked in blood.

"Yeah, you have a point. I would help, though. I'm not going to just let you go into this thing half cocked. That's messed up."

She moved out of the way to let him to the sink. He was, after all, going to need the water.

What Mindy did do, however, was nab a small towel, dabbing water and helping him get some of the blood soaked places he missed.

"Thanks," he said. He was in a lot of pain. Like a lot. It was hard enough to focus past it to move. And being covered in blood felt gross.

"How badly are you hurt?"

Gunshot wound or no, she'd also been dizzy coming up.

"I don't think I'll be dancing a jig, to be honest," she said. "Pretty fucked up. I'm glad the adrenaline is still kicking and screaming through me. I need it."

She at least rose on her haunches now. "But I'd kill for some water right now."

Guy stiffly reached into his bad and pulled out his water bottle.

"Here."

It would be easier to drink from that and just refill it than to try to drink directly from the faucet.

It could be poisoned.

Mindy laughed aloud, shaking her head and taking the water. Right, because Guy, that cavedude, was just going to be carrying around a water bottle with poison on the off chance someone else drank it? Come on.

Besides, it was Guy. She knew better. He played fair.

"Thanks," she said. "Don't forget to fill yours up after."

He played fair, and strangely, it helped him survive. Gut got shot and when he was clear he hadn't meant to attack the person doing the shooting, they'd helped him.

People looked out for him.

But that was what he was used to. That was how the world was supposed to work, as far as he was concerned. Survival through cooperation. Even his many years devoid of human contact hadn't been the worst because he'd had Belt and somebody was better than nobody.

He nodded at Mindy, too out of breath to say anything and then he moved back to the wall to slide down it and sit again.

Only the pain made it just a little difficult to move, which was why he staggered, knocking into the wall with the shoulder that hadn't been shot, falling to the floor.

This was not going to be a good day.

Mindy could move, and move she did, weaving her head right under his armpit and getting him up after bracing her legs. It was rough. She felt like beaten leather, her scratches were a burning rawness that bit every time she moved, and who knew how much time they had left?

He didn't need to say anything though. Support he needed, that he got. No words needed there.

"We need to get out of here."

They needed to find somewhere where they could rest for a little bit before going on their way again.

Or at least until she went on her way again. He had the feeling he wouldn't be moving much for a while.

"I have no idea what hasn't been blown up yet," Mindy said, managing a snort at their misfortune. "Maybe we can hit a gift shop?"

She was keeping a close eye on him right now. The last encounter with him hadn't convinced her he might not do somethin self sacrificing and dumb like go get killed somewhere.

"The floor with the death lizard bones was still intact last time I was there. There are bushes there we could hide in to rest for a bit."

Rest. That was what he wanted. A good sleep on his pile of blankets and pillows, pretending he was in a comfy pile with his family.

[personal profile] hit_girl_mindy 2014-04-21 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
That honestly sounded really inviting. Mindy had been on her feet all day, and it was starting to show. Maybe a little rest would do them both some good.

"All right, fine, but NO sleeping. The minute we nod off, anything could happen. We'd have to do it in shifts otherwise."

"Just resting. If one of us starts nodding off, we warn the other, and then it's time to move again."

It made it easier, though, to have someone to rely on. In the short term, it might not mean it would help them survive the arena, but in the long run, having people, having friends, might just help them both survive.
