FLASH [closed]

Who| Homura and Diana
What| Its time for these two girls to bow out.
Where| Northern part of the island
When| Mid-Week 6
Warnings/Notes| Death and violence.

For not being able to access her powers, Homura felt she was doing a decent job.

Decent, yes. But, thankfully, not too good. Being too good would be a disadvantage. A strange thing to think, no doubt. Quite a few people would no doubt believe winning was more preferable to dying. That living the good life in the Capitol, to bask in one's glory as a Victor, would be more preferable, even if it was the easy way, to dying in increasingly terrible ways.

Homura would disagree with them. Victory here would be most problematic. In truth, the girl wondered if the Capitol truly understood what allowed to exist in their world, when they selected her for this dubious honor. Perhaps they didn't. The aliens managed to break through into this world. They were so ignorant of the consequences of their actions.

But they were lucky, that Homura, clone or not, had a sense of self-preservation. And in this case, the only way to preserve herself was to die.

She still had some time, but she knew there were several others who had reason to come after her. Those whose friends and allies she'd killed in the Arena. Perhaps they would oblige her for vengeance.

And so Homura kept going.

And waited for her last opponent.

Diana sat, cured up into a ball on the floor, chewing at her thumb nail.

Azula has died. Definitely dead. That was important. Diana had seen her die. Didn’t want any surprises. That’s happened before. Protectors disappearing. Showing up later on the wrong side.

Her brow was furrowed. Not in sorrow or grief. Thought. She was thinking.

What now? Azula was her shield. Her defender. She’d carried Diana this far, that was obvious. That was the point. Diana couldn’t do this alone. That was the point. That was her strength. She needed others. And she was good at using others.

Until they left. One way another. That was always the problem. It was getting too late to find someone else, wasn’t it?

She needed a plan. A thought. Something other than the numb pain of her injuries. Something other than the ringing in her ears. Some other than that stomach turning scent of burnt flesh.

Diana scrambled to stand up, spinning to face Homura, palms held up.

"Woah, settle down there. I'm pretty good keeping this distance, thanks."

Diana recoiled, automatically bringing her arms up to shield her face.

"Come on now, why would you want to do that?"

She's trying to back up, wanting to keep an eye on the crazy girl before her but she's unable to fight the instinct to look at that fire. "If you think I'm mad at your for the whole 'killing my meal ticket' thing, it's fine, I promise not to vow vengeance."

"Hey there now." Diana's brain kicked into a panic, her feet scuffing and dragging as she keeps trying to back up. Keeps trying to make some sort of distance.

"Just think about it for a moment. Is it really? I mean, I'm pretty sure offing yourself mid-arena isn't popular with the people who run things."

And that's what Diana did.

There was no reasoning, that was clear.

But it was also clear as Diana's feet pounded against the ground that there was also not going to be any hope of her outrunning a bomb.

No luck. No hope. No chance.

She was too close. It was over in matter of seconds.

There's heat and pain. That's all that registers. All she feels for that briefest moment.

Before the flames engulf everything that was ever once Diana.
