Reaching for the Light [Open]

Who| Zed and anyone who comes across him.
What| Zed comes to the conclusion that these sneezing fits and this rash have to be because he's stayed out in the sun for too long. Later, Zed is kind of an idiot about the lights in the sky.
Where| All over the place; Zed wanders.
When| Weeks 5 and 6.
Warnings/Notes|Talk of murder, violence, allergic reactions, all that typical Arena stuff.

[A - Week 5]
Zed had been doing quite well for himself in these Games. He hadn't been there long, but the bloodbath in the caves had given him an advantage he needed. Ruffnut had been carrying plenty of supplies, and the additional supplies that had been lying around the caves had proven to be a boon. He kept some on him, stashed some in other places, and generally made sure he was set to survive a while longer in this murder arena he'd been dumped into. He had this. He'd patched his wounds, and he was ready to go.

Plus, his powers were gone. At least, he was pretty sure they were gone. Mostly. Sure, he couldn't show off any overt signs of darkness, throw around any strange energies or turn into a monster. That was beyond him. But the darkness was still there in some form, he was guessing, if only for the lack of remorse he'd felt at killing Ruffnut. There was nothing really shining about murder, even if that was apparently what he was supposed to be doing in this place...

But he thought that he was free of enough of his powers that he could actually go out in the sun for as long as he wanted, for it wasn't like he had courtiers to run after him complaining that he was going to get himself killed, that he couldn't handle it, that he'd die after too long spent in the light. No, he was going to test this. Early on in the week, he could be found laid out sunbathing, sprawled out wherever in an attempt to catch a few rays. He wasn't foolish enough to strip for it, but he could still enjoy the simple pleasures of lying out in the sun. He kept a light grasp on his rifle as he lay there, looking like he was asleep--because as lazy and asleep as he seemed, anyone who tried to sneak up on him for anything cute would meet a nasty surprise. The sword he carried with him promised even more trouble should the gun not be enough.

But as the week wore on, he started to wonder if maybe some of his old weakness to light remained. Maybe it had come back to haunt him in the form of an allergy. What else could explain the sudden, violent bursts of sneezing or the unsightly, itchy rash that had spread all over. Zed was in a foul mood because of this, and he took to hanging around shady spots hoping whatever it was would just go away. Because of his foul mood, he could often be found with that rifle cradled in his lap, contemplating taking pot shots at anyone who was walking by just for the hell of it. Something, anything to get his mind off the itching.

[B - Week 6]
Lights. There were lights in the sky, holy crap. Though Zed had met with a thorough defeat by the light back home, that unhealthy fixation of his remained. He was just drawn to light like a moth to flame. And since this was happening out in the dark, there was no problem with his emerging from his hiding spot in the forest to take a look at the light show going off right over him. Awesome.

He looked oddly transfixed as he reached out as though to grab the lights. To take them for himself, since there wasn't anyone here to stop him, and maybe he really hadn't learned...

But it wasn't like the light was anything he could actually hold, so he just stood there out in the middle of nowhere looking like a man who was quite possibly on the verge of losing some tenuous grip on reality. It didn't seem as though he was aware of anything but those lights in the sky at the moment.

Yet he still had a gun in the hand that wasn't stretched out for the sky. Maybe he could be taken out in a surprise attack, or maybe this was all some sort of deviously clever plan designed to lull enemies into a false sense of security.
