I am intrinsically no good. [closed]

Who| Nick and Beth
What| Jason's Angels turn against each other. Nick shoots Beth because he wants to have a shower.
Where| In the forest.
When| Week Six.
Warnings/Notes| Shooting, brawling, blatant disregard for human life.

Since Ellis died, Nick has been a little lost. It's stupid, really, for him to feel aimless without that stupid hick wandering around with him. It isn't like he calls the shots, but it's a sobering experience. It reminds him that this is getting serious, that he isn't the only one gunning people down for the crown here. He's not looking to hunt people down at the moment, he needs to sit down, drink, eat and reload his rifle.

He's winding his way back to the lake, looking for an isolated place to take a break and prepare to be That Guy again. He is not going to be popular when he gets back to the Capitol, not among Tributes anyway. So far Jason seems impressed, but the prizes come with a level of degraded kissassery that Nick isn't particularly fond of. He'd do anything for another meal or a bottle of vodka right now, but that doesn't mean he needs to like it.

Trudging has lead him to what looks to be a deserted tree by the lake and he sets his worldly goods down, about ready to start reloading before he does anything else. If he were alone he would, anyway, but he hears the telltale sounds of someone walking through the bushes and he raises his gun warily when they step out into plain sight.

Right. Beth. Her face is familiar, he's seen her around District 7 so clearly they had some sort of alignment. Had, being the keyword.

"Bad move, sugar." He brings attention to himself with his words and a cock of his rifle. Whatever bullets he has left in this thing are solid gold, so he needs to be careful. He doesn't waste time pulling the trigger on her, probably a little too eager to get the dirty deed done with.

Life in the apocalypse has taught her to keep her guard up. It's impossible to know when walkers might show up, and one moment of distraction might be the end of everything. Maybe that's what ends up saving her, in the end. That innate alertness that has her shifting when she hears a sound other than the distant chirp of birds. A slight motion that means she gets shot through the shoulder instead of through the heart.

It still hurts more than anything she's ever experienced. Feels like something that might've knocked her straight off her feet with the force of it, if she hadn't been holding on to a piece of shrubbery at the time. White-hot, searing pain that threatens to overtake the whole world, and it takes a few seconds to piece together what happened. To feel her blood, so staggeringly hot against her hands.

Someone shot her. She's never seen a single gun in an arena before, but someone just shot her, and they'll do it again if she doesn't move. So she does, gritting her teeth against the agony. Blood-slicked hands drawing her knife from the holster at her thigh. Beth doesn't know how she moves as fast as she does - maybe it's the adrenalin, numbing the pain. She just knows she has to kill him before he shoots her again. And it's with that in mind that she slashes with the knife as soon as she gets close enough.
