I'm Warden Tabris, and this is Jackass.
Who| Tabris, Jet, anyone else who wants to try taking on a mammoth or watch and laugh.
It was her turn to go hunting, and with the warmer weather, she traveled farther than she had been recommended. But she had to roam, had to explore and move. Sitting in one place wasn't her style, and there was a large area that needed exploring. The camp was nice, but
She also hoped to locate other tributes. While being around others of her world was comforting, she needed information. She had questions about the supposed necromancy at work here, whether it was true or not, what kind of place this capitol was, and who had put her here. Preferably from people who didn't meet her and expect a human in her place.
Her cranky thoughts ended once she stepped out of the trees, and into the meadow. This was because something else took her attention, far beyond grumping around. There were animals out there, though she doubted that her scythe or her bow would be enough to take it out alone. It was unlike any other animal she had ever seen, completely outside of her knowledge. So far beyond her scope that all she could do was stare at the creature, gaping.
It was massive. The size of a dragon. It was covered in thick, brown fur that made Tabris feel a little warmer just looking at it. It also had huge tusks jutting out, that could easily skewer a person right through.
Massive. Dangerous looking.
"Perfect."
And with her scythe, she started slowly heading for the beast. Because why the hell not.
What| Tabris and Jet have located a mammoth. They want to fight it.
Where| Large Meadow
When| Early week 5
Warnings/Notes| Violence, swearing, animal death (hopefully)

When he came into the meadow, knife tucked into his boot, that sharp stone that had proven endlessly helpful after all in his pocket and a long sharp branch in hand, he stopped dead in his tracks just to stare. It was a mammoth, a real, living mammoth right in front of him and Jet could scarcely believe it. The movement to his left drew his attention and he watched as a woman began to approach the creature, stance making her intent clear and in that moment he was convinced she was insane.
And yet, a thrill rushed through his chest at the thought of trying to bring the creature down too...surely she wouldn't mind the help, it wasn't like she had much of a chance by herself. Besides, what did he have to lose with nearly all of his allies gone?
Jet took long and quiet strides to make himself parallel to her, eyes darting over to catch her and take his cues from her movements. If she saw him, he'd nod to her to indicate he was there to help with the thing, if not, he'd simply do what he could and hope she didn't take him down with it.

Excellent plan, all around.
She nodded back, and glanced over at the mammoth that had gotten their attention. Apart from the rest, if they could keep it that way...One between it and the herd, and one on the other side? As good of a plan as she could figure, having never fought one of the beasts. She turned her gaze over to the stranger, and gestured to the space between the lone mammoth and the herd. If he could startle it away, she could come in while it was distracted. Her eyes scanned over the body again--The hide looked tough, but she was tougher, and a good couple of cuts in the ribs might bring it down. If she could get between the ribs, and to the lungs...That would be tough, but even if she was just close, it'd bring the beast down enough for a killing blow. With two of them to dart and slash, they should be able to bring it down.
She hunkered down slightly, once again surprised by just how easy it was to move when you weren't wearing armor that weighed as much as a toddler. She begun heading for the mammoth again, eyes sparkling. Now, this was the kind of action she was used to. The kind of thing that made your blood boil, kept your heart beating. And, of course, she'd look super cool to her group if she dragged home a creature the size of Andraste's ass.

He moved a little faster, but kept himself low and as quiet as he could so he didn't alert the mammoth to his presence too early. As soon as he'd gotten around to it's front, Jet looked over to the woman once more to make sure she was ready. He'd only ever read about mammoths in books he'd found in grade school, none of them had ever said the best way to startle one, for all he knew, he could jump out of the bushes and it would react the way they wanted. Or it could gouge him on those vicious looking tusks it had. He decided something a little more offensive was the better route.
He made sure he was in the right position before digging out the rock he'd stuffed into his pocket. It wouldn't bring the thing down, but it could maim pretty bad as long as his aim was true and that skill had rarely failed him. He pulled his arm back and threw the sharp stone with a pitcher's precision right into one of the beast's eyes.

While the beast was preoccupied by Jet as an attacker, she swooped in from the opposite direction. She didn't have confidence in her own archery, nor the bow, to be able to do much from behind, so she would have to close in with her scythe. A dangerous task, but if she was careful...She reached the back legs, and swung the scythe, reaching up to dig the scythe into the upper thigh, and pull it down. The intention, to cut a hamstring. The fur was thicker than she anticipated, but she dug in stubbornly, only backing away when the mammoth gave another roar of pain, and started turning to face her.
She pulled out her scythe, and hopped out of the leg's kicking reach, scrambling to get out of the way before the tusks could face her. She hadn't managed to completely sever the muscle, but it was definitely limping as it wheeled around. Another cut in the same area could bring down that leg, at least. Good thing we're playing tag here. She thought grimly, slinking more into the grass. If I had to take this thing on without something else to distract it...Egh. Wouldn't be pretty.

Jet took his cue and darted forward out of his cover. In a fluid motion, he took the knife out of his boot and moved around to the injured leg, slicing into the pre-existing cut as hard as he could. Thankfully, cybernetics and artificial muscles in his metal arms made that force substantial. The thing bellowed again and swung it's head around -hopefully missing his temporary hunting buddy in the process- as it tried to step back with the injured leg and collapsed on that side under it's own weight. It's front half was still up as it cried out and tried to knock back it's attackers with trunk and tusks.
Jet switched hands and took his make-shift spear up in his right, heaving it at the front leg closest to him, hoping it would help bring it all the way down, or at least down enough for a killing blow to be delivered.
not quite riding but i hope this works
It certainly seemed he'd managed to cripple the leg. The animal went down, two legs seriously injured, and Tabris ran at it, climbing up the back. The shaggy coat came in handy with this--Long, tough fur was easy to grab onto and haul herself up the massive beast. She stood, and started for the head. But feeling the person on their back, the mammoth put up some last resistance--pushing itself on its good leg, and shaking itself, trying to dislodge the attacker.
Tabris was, unfortunately, not as lithe as one would expect an elf to be--The drawbacks of being able to swing massive weapons around, you put more training into strength than grace. As she fell, she did manage to use the scythe, swinging it at the mammoth, with enough strength to lodge into its back. That cut the shaking down, but she was still struggling to get on her feet, with the animal trembling beneath her. At least in this position, the more the animal struggled, the more her blade sank into it.
"If you can get up there and kill it, that'd sure be great!" She called out to the man. "I mean, I can do it, but it'd be awfully inconvenient to get smashed here." He was in a better position to get to the head, probably, and she was doing some serious damage to the beast, anyway. Her scythe was drawing closer to the spine as the animal bucked, maybe she'd get this thing to stop trashing around.
works perfectly for me!
"Was gonna stop and smell the flowers, but since you asked so nicely..." One hand still holding on tight despite the doomed creature's struggles, Jet retrieved his knife again and slammed it as hard as he could into the mammoth's skull. Seven inches of blade seemed to do the trick and the creature groaned as it collapsed completely, jarring Jet's teeth together through the force...but they were alive and the mammoth wasn't so points to them.
"Huh...'bring down a mammoth' wasn't on my life to-do list, but I'll check it off anyway." He turned to face her as he drew the blade out of the thing's skull and wiped it on the fur. "Thanks."

"Mammoth? Is that what they're called? I was gonna go with 'big fucking animal', but mammoth is more catchy." She pulled the scythe free where it had gotten lodged in the spinal column, wiping the blood off on the thick fur. "But it's no problem. It was fun to get to do something besides freeze my ass off." She walked over to the middle of the mammoth, staring down at the beast under her feet. "I guess the question now is how to cut this thing up. Skinning first, I think." She looked up, squinting as she glanced around the meadow. It should be pretty easy to see anyone trying to sneak in to steal their kill, now that it was dead. They'd just have to keep an eye out.
She walked over to her hunting partner, and stuck a hand out. Introductions seemed only polite after they had managed to take down a mammoth. "Name's Warden-Commander Revas Tabris. Nice to meet you."
TW: Slight eye gore
By the time she walked over to him, he was standing as well and took her hand in a firm shake. (Thankfully it'd warmed up enough for his metal hands not to hurt her skin at all.) Every time someone listed a ranking, it nearly made him give his own out of decades of habit, but here it didn't really matter whether he was a Captain, he could be the damn president of the U.S. and it wouldn't matter here.
"Jet Link, nice to meet you, Revas. T.V's the thing they show these games on. You'll see. Anyway, there's no way we're getting this whole thing out of here, so I'm just interested in taking what I need."
He slid down the creature to the ground and walked over towards it's head. "But first..." He cringed but then stuck his fingers into the thing's eye socket to get his fingers under the rock and pry it free. Thank god his hands were metal or this would be more gross than just the sounds.

"Nice to meet you, too. You can call me Tabris. Everyone does. Don't know why, I have a perfectly good first name, but that's how it goes." Or Warden. Or Commander. Or just refer to her as the Hero of Ferelden. They were oddly reluctant to dig out the first name.
Speaking of digging out, she couldn't help but squirm slightly when he stuck his fingers in the mammoth's eye socket. She'd seen a lot of shit, but god, eyes. The sound made her clench her teeth, and she distracted herself with beginning the skinning process, taking her scythe and cutting into the thick pelt, starting to piece it out. She'd done it for plenty of smaller creatures, and didn't bother with the same thing--She wouldn't need the entire thing.
"Yeah, but I got two others waiting for me that I have to feed." She replied, ignoring the blood gushing out of the cuts and onto her hands. "I can try to come back, but we're going to get predators here within a few hours." She neglected to say that the people were a child and an injured person, so she was the only one bringing real food in. She had to make sure she brought back enough for them. "I can probably rig up some kind of sled. I've been called worse than a work horse."

"I understand." He used to have his own to care for, so if he could help her with whoever she saw fit to watch over, maybe that would make up for losing his own group a little. "I'll help you make something to transport the meat, it's not like I've got other places to be."
His eyes drifted to the tusks then back to his work as he thought. "I wonder if we can get those tusks out of it's skull. Might not work unless we can figure out a way to break them off or something. Or even just the pointy part, it'd make a good weapon."
