Poison in the Water

On the second day of the week, something enters the water system. Unlike many of the previous hazards, this isn't a trap by the Gamemakers; the contamination is a danger devised by the Tributes' own fellows.

It enters their mouths odorless, colorless, through any water that has not been bottled. From sinks, from fountains, from the drink dispenser in the cafeteria and even in the ice rink. Tributes may start to hallucinate, may feel nausea, may suffer muscle spasms. What's more, they may find themselves absolutely euphoric, wandering through a perception of reality riddled with holes in time, missing memories, mood swings and bouts of unconsciousness.

The effects reach peak concentration after about one hour, but will last for about six to eight hours after drinking the water. For a 200-pound person, drinking more than ten gallons in a 24-hour period might prove fatal, but dehydrated, malnourished, injured, and smaller people might experience lethal toxicity at smaller volumes. Cause of death is respiratory failure leading to asphyxiation.

Drink up.
