what kind of nerd wants to read during a death game
Who| Sollux and Eridan
What| Two nerds running into each other.
Where| The bookstore
When| Week 2?
Warnings/Notes| None at the moment, will update if needed.
It's been a busy day. With the internet cafe open, of course Sollux went, though he found himself thoroughly disappointed with the machines there. Not that it was surprising; of course they'd give the tributes something shitty. No use letting them at the good stuff. Even trying to do something interesting got him shocked for his trouble, but by luck or chance he evaded any major damage.
He's run into people, too - or more accurately been hassled by them. Chatting on the network, chatting with other tributes, getting silently emoted at by an avox. It's been back and forth, with venting at Dave to teaching Elsa how to computer to the deep, worrisome discomfort of learning what happened to the Initiate. It's the last encounter that has him headed to the book store; he'd been there once before on the first day, but had been too jostled by everything to even read their titles. Now he knows what they're about, and he's determined to find his own book to learn what it can tell him.
(It's not without stops. The cafe was sweltering, and even with a shirt wet from the fountain to sponge off, he wanted to switch into something fresh.)
But now on the second floor, at the store itself, he takes his care. Just because no one was there the first time means no guarantee now. He wants to be quick, wants to get back to Feferi (wherever she's gone now, but she's got the revolver, she'll be fine), but he knows this will take a bit regardless. His steps he keeps light; he holds FF's crowbar raised, and his bucket of skates he keeps close against his body to prevent rattling. He doesn't see anyone amongst the stacks, but it doesn't stop his slow creep. There's more of the place he can't see just yet.

How embarrassing.
He's eying Sollux, the look filled with disgust, distrust, and hatred. Not that it can be seen yet, since he's keeping himself hidden behind a shelf. He hurriedly took cover when he noticed the other troll entering, and so he stays silent, waiting, and eager.
He's looking for an opportunity to catch Sollux off guard, to give himself the upper hand. As the other troll passes the shelf he's hiding behind, he takes the opening. He steps out of hiding, the gun pointing at Sollux's back, his eyes narrowing.
He could do it. He could kill him right here and now. Feferi wouldn't have to know, Sollux could die before he even sees him do it.
Oh is he tempted. So tempted.
"Drop the crowbar, mustardblood."
The amount of restraint it takes to keep his finger off the trigger is legendary. But a promise is a promise, he guesses. And if there's the off chance that Feferi caught wind of him killing Sollux, everything would be screwed.
He can't have that.

His day gets a little worse just for hearing Eridan. He cringes visibly; it's a wonder he doesn't jump for the surprise of it. He turns to face him, frowning the not the asshole sort of frown, and quietly imagines knocking his jaw off.
"It'th Feferi'th, and we have a truthe through her." He keeps hold, but it's down at his side, end pointed to the floor. "I'm not here for you. Ath thoon ath I find what I'm looking for I'll be gone, alright?"

His aim isn't lowering either, for all he's expecting Sollux to disarm himself, he's making no move to do the same. Which is, if anything, typical of Eridan. Always expecting more from others than what he expects from himself.
"What are you lookin' for anyway? Somethin' more important than Fef? 'Cos that's where you should be right now. With her, makin' sure there ain't no one that could be fuckin' cullin' her. A book can bloody wait." His tone more or less implies if he were her matesprit, he wouldn't leave her side, he would be there to help protect her, unlike what Sollux is doing!

Eridan's words do dig, though. More important than Feferi - that's not it. He doesn't want someone to kill her. But he reassures himself (or tries to) as he answers, "She hath my gun. She'th thtronger than me even without it. Theparating wath her idea, too, thankth, tho don't put her on a pedethtal like I forthed her to go off on her own."
He wants to get searching already, but he doesn't dare move while the carbine is still raised. He's not raising his weapon, but he doesn't trust Eridan anyway.
