But he realizes that he actually has no way of knowing whether or not he's being mentally manipulated, even this very moment... they could have already altered his mind somehow without his knowledge.

He's lowered his defenses a little too much though, so he's wide open and takes a hit from Detta's next surge forward. He moves to counter, but this time it's a much weaker attempt.
