The crowbar and water she had snatched from the elevators had been an extreme help in the last week or so, but it wasn't enough by a long shot. She had grabbed some food from the cafeteria, a little bit from the edible plant exhibit, but nothing was helping. Try as she might, the water didn't last long and she found a bathroom or two for refueling but-

She could hardly grasp things, her hands shook so much. Her breathing was labored, she was sweating a lot. It was the first time she wasn't careful with her drinking in between arenas and now she was paying for it. She officially had a problem.

Holiday just took deep breaths and tried to keep the rations at a normal level, though water was becoming liquid gold for her... With any luck, it was probably going to be over soon anyway.

"Oh, I'm sure you guys have different views. He's like, a few decades before my time, and I mean literally. Guy is old fashioned but he uses humor to lighten up his situation. Can't blame him, although of course I bother the shit out of him."

"He's before my time, too..." She stopped to think about his mindset a little. "I think he's having a hard time coping with the place. At the same time, he reminds me of how much I've changed here, so that's hard to cope with, too. I think we could get along really well, but that seems like the primary problem."

[hit_girl_mindy]

Mindy nodded. "I was lucky enough that this place isn't all too different from where my word could go. I'm used to fucked up: he isn't. At least, he's not used to that degree. Changing here isn't something to lament anyway: its unavoidable if you want to live."

Thinking of that old guy who let himself die in the Arena every time, she shuddered. "Getting along is a problem?"

"Change seems unavoidable here, regardless." Holiday didn't care for living, but she had certainly changed to cope.

"Sort of. I annoy him more often than not." And, uh... vice versa.

[hit_girl_mindy]

"I noticed." Mindy gave the doctor a wry grin, really kind of glad she was around her. She always looked sort of troubled.

"YOU annoy HIM?! Oh come on, you're like Florence Nightingale and he's fucking the Xander Harris of doctors! How does that even work?"

"Well, he has the ability to annoy me, too," Holiday chuckled to herself. "Like I said. Different views. I think once he figures out how this place works a little better, things will change with us." Maybe. He seemed stubborn.

[hit_girl_mindy]

"He's gonna have to get used to this place real quick then," Mindy said. "I mean, its not like we're all from here anyway, what else cam we do? Hope he's still funny though. I kinda like him even though he seems scared shitless of me."

[doc_holi]

"He'll get used to you, just like he'll get used to this place. I'm sure his humor won't go anywhere, though. I think it's what keeps him going."

[hit_girl_mindy]

"We all need something like that," Mindy said, although she had no idea how much that was going to be necessary later. "What's keeping YOU going?"

[doc_holi]

"Everyone else." It was out of her mouth before she could really think on the question, but it was a true enough answer. "My friends keep me going."

[hit_girl_mindy]

Mindy nodded. "Yeah, I get that. I mean, I have some friends here too."

She smiled sadly. "I didn't get to really have any back home. Had a lot of training to do. So it means a lot to have them here. I even met a girl sorta like me."

Despite herself, Holiday smiled a bit. "Good. Be thankful for that training, though."

Something in here wanted to warn Mindy to not get too close to others here, but she didn't. She wanted the kid to have some fun, after all.

"I always am."

It would have been funny if the Doc had said that to Mindy. The truth of the matter was that this advice was best suited for MINDY'S friends and not Mindy herself.

Holiday nodded, but she wasn't happy about it. She didn't like anything about this place or the fact that kids had to still prepare for it.

"How does the stitching feel?"

[hit_girl_mindy]

Mindy moved her limbs slowly, then started to move a little more easily.

"Pretty good. You're a great doctor."

[doc_holi]

"Not really," Holiday laughed again, but it was only to make the comment appear light hearted. "But thank you."

By no means was she a good doctor in this mess.

[hit_girl_mindy]

Mindy threw up her hands. "Hey, you know you better than I do. Believe what you want!"

She paused. "But I think so, anyway."

Well... it was nice to hear at least... "Thank you."

[hit_girl_mindy]

"It's fine. Just take care of yourself. For all you know, you could win this...if something kills me first."
