Welcome To The Compound

[[Only the following characters are able to enter the Compound at this time, but if they choose to do so, will NOT be able to leave the Compound until told otherwise: Armin Alert, Barbra Gordon, Donatello Hamato, Harleen Quinzell, Homura Akemi, Lin Mayuzumi, Ruby Lucas]]

The audible hum-buzz-drone that comes from the danger zone of the sonic fences ceases and the jungle goes silent. For a breath and a heartbeat everything stops, as if the island and the world itself has paused. Still and dark and damp, the silence is almost oppressive. And in just a blink, the world goes right again.

Perhaps you have noticed. Perhaps you have not. But the fences all across the island turn off and turn back on, like clock work, every two hours. Except for here. In this one area of jungle, in a valley deep in the south, they are ALWAYS on.

Except now.

It's not too deep into the jungle. Only a quarter of a mile or so, until the gradual decent into a low, wide valley opens into a large, green clearing. If you have made it far enough to see this clearing, there is no use turning back now. If you do, you will find that your window of opportunity has closed, and the force filed surrounding this area has turned back on. Unlike the fences, there does not seem to be any noticeable on/off pattern. You may be stuck here indefinitely. Perhaps this leads you cut off from your allies. Or maybe this gets you away from your enemies. Either way, the jungle is no more or less perilous and the rains are just as unpredictable as any other part of the island. You might want to look around if you're going to be stuck here anyway.

In the clearing, you may find your curiosity gloriously rewarded. Six small houses stand clean and neat and inviting in a quaint and perfect circle. Single-story homes that look strangely old and outdated considering their obvious newness, all have yards with large shade trees -- a hammock some, tree houses in others -- surrounded by a white picket fence. Each house is unlocked and everything is open for the taking.

You will also find in the center of this circle of houses is a solitary silver pedestal that is 1 meter high, and 1 meter in circumference. Placed atop this pedestal is a single red button.

If you can reach the button, you can push the button. As often as you like and at any time that you want. The only rule here is that you must respond to the appropriate thread in this post so that the gamemakers know that you have pushed it.

You may respond this post/push the button at any time and as often as you would like. Results of each push may vary.

Don had been scouting out the jungle for over a day before coming on the clearing. And, just as quickly, the fence turned on, cutting him off entirely from the rest of the island.

Hmph.

So much for getting in and getting out. The current Arena was a boon to a ninja like him, as it allowed one to disappear quite easily for kills. But here? He was trapped. There was very little room to escape. Much like the entire situation of the Games, really.

On the other hand? Supplies. Supplies and weapons. And Don had no problem with those.

Harley squealed with delight when she found her way into the compound. It was heavenly! A fully stocked kitchen, weapons, even TV!!!

And so it was because of this that the first hour found Harley vegging out in front of the TV, shoes off, shoveling food into her face like a hungry hyena and watching the other tributes mope about the jungle. At some point the camera turned on her and her eyes lit up. She grinned wickedly and wiped some food from her lips blowing a kiss in the general direction of the camera.

"Hello all you happy people!" She cheered and then in a sultry slow way, began to undress. First her plain T-shirt, then slipping the strap of her bra down her shoulder. "Nothing too racy though, this is a kids show after all~" She purred and turned to show them her bare back. She shook her hips in a sultry way enjoying how the camera slid along her curves.

****************

Having satisfied her belly, and her need to show off she dressed again and set out to explore the rest of the compound (After loading up as much food as she could into a makeshift bag that had formerly been someone's bedsheets.

There were other tributes here as well, but she hadn't approached any of them yet because one item in particular caught her eye.

A big. Red. Button.

Right in the middle of everything! On a pedestal and just calling out to her! The maniac inside just couldn't resist!

She skipped over to the pedestal with a broad grin and gave a little twirl of delight before bringing her hand over the tempting device, finger extended, poised with all the gravity of someone about to launch a nuclear warhead at a populated city. If no one stops her she'll push it down with a giggle and brace herself for whatever comes next.

Harley stopped short then looked around till she spotted the familiar face of another tribute who as far as Harley knew was still new.

"Water skiing~" She replied with a flutter of her eyelashes and an innocent smile despite her finger hovering dangerously over the button.

"Don't you want to know what exactly that button does before pushing it yourself?" While she seems skeptical, Homura isn't exactly running to try and stop her. In fact, she's stepping back a bit. "I would."

If this woman was stupid enough to jump into something when she knew nothing of the consequences, that was her fault, not Homura's. Besides, may as well take advantage of someone else being a fool to see what happened.

"Eh..." She looked at the button then back to Homura. "Maybe a little, but isn't it more fun to be surprised? Besides look at this thing! It's just begging to be pushed!"

And with that, without waiting for further argument she pushed the button.

When the button is pressed, it stays down with an audible CLICK. The pedestal vibrates ever so slightly; a brief and harmless electric buzz. At first, this seems to be the only noticeable thing that happens. But listen carefully. Do you hear that noise?

A tick. Methodical. Metronomic. Just loud enough to be heard if you listen, and it seems to be coming from everywhere, or perhaps nowhere at all. This noise will continue to get louder over time, but only every so slightly.

Is something coming closer? Is this a countdown? Is this a warning?

Time will tell soon enough.

Harley however was impatient and groaned, "Aw whatta bust!"

At this, Homura stared at the woman for a moment, then quietly began to walk away.

A bust indeed.

"Huh...hey wait come on maybe you should give it a shot!"

She skipped after Homura following her deeply buried instincts about how to find those who would be most irritated by her nature.

The shoes scraped in the dirt to a stop.

"Why?"

"Because what if it does something amazing?! Or hilarious?"

She skipped ahead of Homura and grinned playfully.

"You never know till you try!"

This was an area rather like a normal neighborhood, he supposed. Well, more like a neighborhood within Wall Sina, anyway. After being separated from Eren by the fences, he needed to play smart. He scouted out a few options, before picking out a house for himself that stood the best chance of being defended. And defended it would be, until the hum of the fences died.

First, he got a pair of swords, then food. He found tools, and started moving and breaking down various bits of furniture to create barricades and to block the windows. It was a lot of work to do on his own, but he had to plan for the long-term here. He just hoped he could get this done in time.

Shoving dressers and armoirs around had gotten most of the job done. There was one large window right beside the front door that needed something different. He dragged the table to it, and tipped it onto its side. He started taking the legs off, one by one. He reattached two of them to the wall in front of the windowsill. Now for the part of this process that would make him the most vulnerable. He had to get the tabletop up in front of the window, resting in the notch created by the table legs and the windowsill.

He just hoped he was strong enough to get it up there quickly and not get taken by surprise. He hoped the nest of dining room chairs at the front and the trap at the back entrance would at least give him enough warning.

Though having rationed her Cornucopia spoils to the best of her abilities, Lin was out of food and water at last, and hunger gnawed at her with its familiar relentlessness. Her hunting knife clasped tightly in a fist, Lin wandered the jungle for someone with supplies to kill - when a series of white houses appeared over the horizon and her breath caught in her throat.

The woman knew nothing of the jungle, nothing of survival, but she was no fool: surely a trap awaited whoever stepped into this clearing. Immediately deciding she stood a better chance in there than hiding in a tree, she pressed forward recklessly. Like a banshee the lawyer dove into one of the clean, perfect houses, making unnecessary noise as she went, tearing into the cabinets and pantries as quickly as her arms would obey. She'd get what she needed and leave. After cramming cans of food into her backpack, she pressed her back against the wall, clutched her knife to her chest, and waited, breath laboured from the stress. Deciding she was, indeed, alone and safe to leave, Lin grasped her bag and flew out the front door.

She was nearly clear when a feint, nearly imperceptible hum met her ears and Lin dug her heels into the ground to stop her pace. Falling backwards, she hissed with hurt pride, but closed her eyes and listened carefully... Just a metre ahead, she perceived it - the whir of the forcefield up and running where it hadn't been only a minute ago.

Her brown eyes snapped open with horror. She knew what was ahead - she'd thrown her favourite shoe at the Gamemakers who had judged her score and it had bounced back a crisp. Her fingernails dug into the soil and she moaned in terror. Lin was trapped.
