They finally found the watering hole. R would sob in relief if he had working tear ducts: instead they're bone dry, full of sand these days, and besides, he's babysitting Shion. He has to look cool and collected in front of him, like he's the vet zombie here. R even plays it smooth as they start squishing along the mud, grunting out a "huh!" like he knew exactly where the watering hole was the whole time.
R has no idea how long they wait around for prey. He tries to give Shion some tips on proper shuffling techniques to pass time, hoping he's so new to being Dead that he hasn't figured out R's winging this.
He's saved from any awkward explanations when a new smell hits his nose. Not a coyote or a prairie dog or even all the humans R's tried chasing around. Something else. At this point, R's hungry enough to sink his teeth into anything - it doesn't even have to have a pulse at this point, because he'd settle for "still warm" or "not ice cold".
"Like...this. Food," R grunts, the most he's said in days. "Fff....follow me."
R starts making a swaying bee-line toward the smell. With all the scrub surrounding the watering hole, he can't actually see their prey yet (no way he's telling Shion that), but he's sure if he makes a lot of noise stumbling around, he'll spook them out in the open.
