He didn't make it as far as he hoped before she started to come to, which at least pointed that he hadn't hit her nearly hard enough for any serious damage. The groan was the only warning he had that she was coming too. It was just enough. Barely. He glanced down in time to see her eyes, slitted open, looking at him. And it took a second for everything to fall into place for her, and Daniel could see just when it became clear what was going on.
Holding onto her was like suddenly holding onto an eel. It was only luck he didn't get his glasses slapped right off his nose. Daniel held on, tightening his hold and not letting her get her feet on the ground.
"I'm trying to save your life, even though I really shouldn't bother!" Daniel snapped. "You would have been dead if I'd left you laid out!"
