Sherlock hated keeping watch. The seconds seemed to stretch on endlessly, the ever present sense of danger not enough to keep the dark tendrils of boredom from enveloping his mind. So he sat, staring out of the torn planks of the rundown shack that he, John and Danny had found for shelter, watching the silent and dark outside world where little made sense and the rest made him furious. He was so bored that he was twitching, desperately craving a cigarette, a nicotine patch, a body, a gun, a case...

God, but how long had it been since he had any work?

He brooded sullenly in the quiet dark, considering waking up John simply to offer some form of entertainment but remembering the last lecture he'd received for doing that on his 'watch'. It was pointless, really, this entire endeavour, if they'd only--

His thoughts were immediately and completely snapped away by a strange, warbling music, and he snapped to attention, ears primed to the direction of the sound. It was vaguely familiar, but then, so much of this place was. If he could just put his finger on it...

But then, a small fizzing, whistling light leapt through the broken boards and landed near his feet. For a half second, he frowned, then opened his mouth to wake his companions, but-

BOOM! FLASH!

And there was nothing but sound and light.
