It's not what he was expecting for his first venture into the arena - a practice arena, a test for him to prove his worth before the real event would begin - but the Batter doesn't let that get him down in the slightest. He has an objective set before him and he wasn't about to fail, not before he could show his true strength and everything he was capable of.
There's a mad rush for the lifeboats, from what he can see, their only saving grace in a sudden time of need, but he'll take his time. There's little point in wasting his energy now, not with the biting cold and a long trek ahead. Exhausting himself now would only hinder him in the long run.
He does elbow someone else along the way, but he pays them no mind. Getting off the sinking ship is the first priority and everyone else can just get out of his way.
