He still hasn't decided if it's better to die and still give them that opportunity or to attempt to win and escape the Arenas altogether. Not that a win ever guarantees anything, but it's better than nothing, and as far as Albert knows Thirteen hasn't pulled anyone under the age of twenty. If that's a choice rather than a coincidence, Dave might be out of luck anyway which boils Albert's blood. Women and children first, that's what he's always held true for rescues.
