Being alone out in a dangerous wilderness is not a good idea, Haruto has come to realize. He can't keep pulling away from others, as much as he wants to just pull inwards after Nitou's death. It's going to end up killing him, too. So when he hears the sounds of exertion in the distance and realizes that there's packed down snow and footprints, he doesn't turn away and head elsewhere. He goes forward to find out what's going on and who's doing it.
He gets there in time to see someone hastily duck behind a bush, and he has to try to not laugh. You can't really blame anyone for being jumpy and defensive in a place like this. "Easy! It's alright! I'm not here to kill anyone!" That rifle he's got is slung over his shoulder, not aimed at anyone. That's encouraging, right?
