Everything is happening at once, and Haruto can only react to what he notices first. He saw the big cat pounce and, snow in the way or not, his instinct is to dive out of the way. So he does, and he is sadly unable to get right back up to his feet to contribute to the fighting. In fact, he is struggling and stumbling and covered in powdery snow and otherwise being completely damned useless.
