She certainly looks sympathetic, maybe even empathetic if he'd choose to see it that way, but she knows that's not what he wants from her. Saying that she was sorry wouldn't bring the woman back. It wouldn't rid him of his guilt. Instead she settles for something simple and neutral, and hopefully it will be enough.

She really is. She's so sorry that it means he has to keep going through this, but at least no one had killed him. At least he hadn't died horribly. It's about the only upside to finding friends in this place.
