After losing the most important item he could have received shortly after leaving the cornucopia, Cass' luck hadn't really picked up at all -not that he'd ever had much to begin with. He'd kept the boots because they weren't as loud as the ones he'd been given initially and he'd kept the screwdriver because it seemed like a good way to stab people in a pinch. The key, however, seemed about as useless as anything and he very nearly threw it out on multiple occasions. Still, it was one of the few things he had, so he kept it with him. Who knew, maybe he could choke someone with it.
Speaking of choking someone, he hadn't done any killing at all and it had been a week. He'd thought things would be more direct than this, forcing him into a position where killing would be necessary; so far, he'd just noticed people were largely hiding and banding together like packs of dogs.
If the doctor heard him use that reference, he'd tell Cassian he was insulting dogs by comparing them to 'this rabble' or whatever useless big word Jezebel would come up with. That thought almost made him smile.
Cassian's thoughts cut short as he spied a boy at the end of the hall. He seemed to be alone and that looked like as good a sign as any that Cassian should get back to what he was good at. Silent as a shadow, Cass slipped into a dark empty room to wait for his target to pass.
