Bucky Barnes ☆ adorable trainwreck manpain ([personal profile] soldieronwards) wrote in [community profile] thearena2014-09-16 10:09 pm

We're already dead, just not yet in the ground.

Who| Bucky Barnes (616), anyone who wants to run into him trying to do some heroics, and then Black Tom Cassidy.
What| Stupid, foolhardy heroics, and a crashed car.
Where| Starting on the second floor, then heading up to the third floor and Avengers World.
When| Right after the car crash.
Warnings/Notes| Violence, injury, and eventual death.

When the sound of the alarms blasts through the mall, it wakes Bucky up in more ways than one.

He's been operating almost on autopilot since Natasha died this time. He came into this Arena hoping to survive, and that's what he kept on trying to do. Now, as he pulls himself out of his sleeping bag in a corner of the bookstore, his head aching furiously with the noise, he realizes something: there's no point in trying to stay alive in this place. Natasha is waiting for him back in the Capitol, and that's where the real fight is, anyway.

Right now, all he can do is try to make this miserable place more tolerable for others more innocent than he is, and the first step to doing that is shutting off that damned alarm.

[PROMPT ONE] ⇒ OPEN

It's hard to make his way up the dangerous escalator while his head is swimming from the hideous noise. That's as far as he's made it at this point. He stops at the bottom of it after his first try fails and silently (what good would saying anything do in this din?) regards the steps before him. His right arm is gashed and bleeding from his first attempt.

Finally, he swears bitterly (the foul words swallowed up in the noise of the alarm) and starts up again.

[PROMPT TWO] ⇒ for Black Tom

He's quite deaf by the time he makes it to the third floor after all, but that's all right. It doesn't matter that he can't hear and there's blood trickling from his ears and his head is pulsing like it might explode. He just needs to get close enough to the alarms to take his shotgun--which he's gotten out of his backpack and is holding firmly in both hands now--and blast them to pieces.

Bucky isn't even thinking at this point. He's putting one foot in front of the other. He's not walking as steadily as he'd like, which is really irritating, but he'll keep going. That's what he's always done.

He could use a little help, though--his prior injuries and the effects of that deafening wail are really getting to him. Still with a little ways to go, he stumbles and drops to his knees.

Tom was unfortunate enough to be on the third floor when the alarm went off, and now he's stumbling half-blinded away from the post-revolutionary France-themed store with his hands over his ears. They serve precious little protection. He can feel blood starting to leak from his nose as he runs up and nearly trips over a man with a shotgun - but his senses have not so left him as to keep him from wanting to get ahold of that gun.

He tries to shout something at Bucky, but nothing can be heard over the squall. So instead, he grabs Bucky's shoulder and tries to hoist him upwards, to his feet - the man was clearly heading in the direction of the alarms, probably with the intent of combating noise with gunpowder. Godspeed, Tom thinks.

He'll wait for Bucky to finish the job and then take the gun for himself.
