Kain was fixated on the explosives. It wasn't just a spear from the ancient weapons displays that he'd been able to get from the exhibits. He'd also spent a lot of this arena looking over information in any displays featuring war and weaponry, getting some ideas about what this world had to offer. Not all of it made sense to him. He really didn't think he'd get much out of trying a gun, at this point. But bombs made sense in a way, and seemingly were easier to control here, where they weren't alive. The grenades... those could be especially useful, given what he'd seen. He needed something strong like that since he couldn't rely on his power or, for that matter, on having a mage around who was capable of explosive magic.

But as he ran out, he had a feeling he wouldn't be the only one attempting to get their hands on something. Sure enough, there was someone else coming after him. As he was slammed into, Kain tried to lash out with the pole of his spear, more intending to try and drag his opponent down with him than actually stab.
