"If it's a repetitive cycle, then there's likely a much larger game," Sherlock says. He hasn't figured out what that game is, yet, but he's sure he'll come to it eventually. "Our deaths are small scale. Insignificant."

He's already been able to tell that much, though he's just arrived. This isn't the goal-- it's the means to it.
