He shifted through his bag noisily, head shaking, mouth twisted bemusedly.
"The ground'll open up next, swallow us whole."
Fingers brushing something hard and square, he grabbed at it, and pulled the little first-aid kit free. Setting the bag aside, he flipped it open, pushing through the contents, looking for a tube like the last time.
"Here," he said when he found it, turning back to Max, twisting the little cap. "I don't trust 'em enough to take any chances."
Not when it could be so easily prevented.
Pushing a dab of clear, cold gel out onto his thumb he reached for Max again.
